As in previous modifications, wide skis with torsion grip are used to increase maneuverability. This arrangement provides increased maneuverability. The chassis has a vertical suspension travel.
Returning to the Limited modification, it should be noted that this is one of the most powerful snowmobiles compared to competitors from famous brands. Yamaha has managed to create equipment that satisfies users in most respects. The designers combined innovative technologies and proven technical solutions, and the result was a very durable and repairable design that does not cause any problems throughout the entire life of the device. Among the improvements, we note a gearbox with two speeds and a reverse mode, which makes it possible to quickly turn around and reduce the turning radius in tight areas. In addition, reverse can be used, for example, if the snowmobile is stuck in deep snow, from which you can get out without problems by engaging reverse. It was possible to increase convenience and practicality with the help of the so-called chest rack, located under the front seat. By the way, the seat is two-level, which makes it possible to accommodate two passengers (including the driver). The passenger seat can be removed and a small load secured in its place.
The car is equipped with high-quality footrests for the driver and passenger, which are much stronger and more reliable. To increase the driver’s protection from headwinds and falling snow, the basic configuration already includes a high windshield, enlarged in all geometric parameters.
The most advanced snowmobile from the Yamaha Viking 540 4 family is the Tough Pro modification, which combines the latest developments of the Japanese corporation. This version entered production in 2015, and is considered a relatively new device with great potential for several years to come. This machine takes into account all the features necessary for reliable operation in harsh climatic conditions. It’s not for nothing that Japanese engineers adapted this modification specifically for the northern regions of Russia. The machine can easily withstand low and high temperature loads, as well as sudden temperature changes.
The power unit in the Yamaha Viking 540 4 snowmobile starts manually, but if necessary, you can use an electric starter. In the basic version, the car is equipped with a lightweight and impact-resistant plastic bumper, which is present at the front and rear. Thanks to the use of such lightweight components, the weight of the device has decreased by 20 kg compared to its predecessors. This was enough to improve handling and maneuverability, as well as performance.

Reviews
- Konstantin, Yaroslavl. The car was purchased in 2016, and now it’s time to write about this device. I’ll say right away that I liked the Yamaha Viking 540 4 snowmobile primarily for its handling and stability on the road. The car travels in a straight line like a train. A working volume of 500 cubic meters is a good indicator for low fuel consumption - no more than 15 liters per 100 km. The two-stroke unit works like a clock, nothing malfunctions or creaks. There is a slight hum at idle. I liked how the snowmobile pulled heavy loads weighing up to 300 kg in low gear. The rear suspension is improved compared to the previous model. In addition, it can be adjusted, the stiffness of the shock absorbers can be changed, etc. The same can be done with the front suspension. Thus, you can choose the ideal settings for driving on a knurled, flat road or deep snowdrifts with obstacles. The trunk under the front seat is very roomy, you can put various accessories, fishing and hunting gear, food, etc. The fuel tank capacity is about 30 liters, which is not enough. As a result, you still have to take the whole canister with you. Overall, the snowmobile has more advantages than disadvantages. And I’m not going to sell it, it’s an excellent device for every day.
- Vitaly, Novosibirsk. A good workhorse, but not for off-road use. Alas. The Japanese make high-quality and expensive cars, but no matter how you look at them, they are not suitable for deep snowdrifts. The snowmobile quickly gets buried in the powdery snow, and you have to call someone for help - after all, the device is not light, even though it is lined with plastic around the entire perimeter. By the way, these supposedly durable plastics quickly crack in severe frost. The carrying capacity is a little small - you can transport no more than 300 kg, for me it’s like a cat crying. Where the Yamaha is good is on a packed and flat road, especially on a straight line, and it also performs well in sharp turns. Here the Yamaha Viking 540 4 reveals itself in all its glory. The technology pleased us from the point of view of controllability, but in terms of carrying capacity and maneuverability, it was not the best solution. But I wanted a universal car for all needs. In general, the snowmobile is created solely for pleasure. It is reliable, nothing in it breaks and does not overheat. I hope this continues.
- Rostislav, Irkutsk. Yamaha Viking 540 4 I have been using for 2 years. The machine is well suited for fishing and hunting needs. The equipment starts easily using an electric starter. During the break-in process, the spark plugs were thrown several times, but then this problem went away over time. The maximum speed is about 100 km/h, and it gets even higher on descents. A very dynamic car. True, I can’t say anything good about fuel consumption, since about 20 liters or more are required for every hundred. The snowmobile is high-torque, equipped with a unique customizable suspension that can be adjusted to suit the characteristics of the road surface.

What is a snowmobile
Yamaha snowmobiles are a time-tested guarantee of quality.
The manufacturer produced the first copy back in 1968; since then, the equipment, which in the middle latitudes is used more for entertainment, and in the north is an indispensable means of transportation, confidently walks, or, more precisely, glides across the snow covers of the planet. The suspension is the second most important thing you pay attention to after inspecting the engine. The quality of movement in snowy terrain depends on it; its characteristics affect the progress of the snowmobile through ravines and snowdrifts.
Yamaha Viking received a lot of advantages compared to its previous versions:
- large rear suspension travel - 278 mm, which gives an advantage when driving on uneven terrain;
- caterpillar 50 with 38 hooks - this has significantly improved traction properties on icy and snowy surfaces.
Despite these advantages, some of them smoothly turn into disadvantages, especially if a beginner is driving the snowmobile - with a large suspension travel, you can leave the rear mudguard in the next ravine or “catch” the bottom. Due to the complex design, under extreme use, backlashes quickly appear, which leads to premature repairs.
The Scandic has a stiffer suspension - this is a minus for comfort when moving on dense snow and ice, but a big plus in terms of operation. It is more difficult to kill such a snowmobile, there is simply “nothing to break.”
Both snowmobiles have a telescopic front suspension that can be adjusted. Skandic has a simpler design, a reduced turning radius, which gives an advantage when maneuvering in the forest.
The ruts of the Yamaha Viking are wider, but the Scandic is not inferior in stability due to the low center of gravity. But he gets a huge advantage when moving among the trees.
The rear suspension travel of the Yamaha is greater, but the Scandic has one trick - the mobility of the rear track. It adheres tightly to snow and ice when driving on rough terrain.
The suspension of both snowmobiles is perfectly adapted for movement on snow and ice, but the functionality of the BRP Skandic is wider.
Estimated cost
The cost of the Yamaha Viking 540 IV Tough Pro snowmobile – 2014-2015 model year is within 400,000 rubles.
Its predecessor, the Yamaha Viking 540 IV, produced in 2013, will cost about 350,000 rubles.
And, of course, the Yamaha Viking 540 III, produced in 2010, was valued at 300,000 rubles on the domestic market.
There is also a 1994 model - Yamaha Viking 540 E, for which you will need to pay 200,000 rubles.
But the Yamaha Viking 540, 2007 costs 240,000 rubles.
To ride a Husky snowmobile, you don’t need any special skills; it can be used by both adults and teenagers.
The presence of a special bag helps snowmobile owners decide how to transport certain things and objects.
Operational purpose
The Yamaha Viking 540 4 is used to travel on snowy surfaces in many countries around the world, including the Russian Federation. High engine power allows the machine to be used for:
Yamaha Viking 540-4 - operation
- traveling long distances in difficult cross-country conditions;
- transportation of passengers and hand luggage;
- towing trailers of sufficiently large weight;
- participation in snowmobile competitions.
Yamaha's technical characteristics give it the ability to operate at very low ambient temperatures. Specialized antifreeze compounds are used to lubricate mechanisms and assemblies. Such lubricants do not freeze at low temperatures and ensure uninterrupted operation of equipment in the most severe climatic conditions.
Price
The average price for a new Yamaha Viking 540 4 snowmobile on the Russian market is 400 thousand rubles. The price is indicated for the car in the basic configuration. Taking into account additional options, the price will be significantly higher, depending on the number of modifications. This also applies to pricing for a used Yamaha Viking 540 4 snowmobile, but in this case you should also take into account the technical condition of the device. According to the latest data, the approximate cost of a used 2013 model can be 350 thousand rubles for a well-equipped car.
Advantages and features of a snowmobile
One of the main advantages of the machine is the ability to move on snow surfaces of any complexity. High cross-country ability is achieved due to the fact that, compared to other models of Yamaha snowmobiles, this machine has a lower weight. The presence of a reverse gear makes it easy to get out of ravines hidden under the snow.
The manufacturer has equipped this model with wider skis than previous products, which are equipped with special runners. Thanks to this, the snowmobile has excellent handling.
Characteristics of the Yamaha Viking 540-4 snowmobile
The handles of the Yamaha Viking 540 IV are equipped with electrical heating. This eliminates the risk of frostbite on the operator's hands during long driving. The model has comfortable footrests for the driver and passenger, which are equipped with special hooks. Hooks prevent shoes from sliding on the surface of the footboard.
Compared to previous products, the manufacturer installed a wider track on the Yamaha Viking 540 IV. This makes it possible to move easily even on loose snow. The wide track and skis increase the area. The large area of the product reduces the pressure on the snow cover when moving.
To improve traction on a Yamaha snowmobile, the manufacturer installs 7T drive sprockets. the front of the vehicle has a small bumper. Despite its light weight and small dimensions, the front bumper of the snowmobile is highly durable. The bumper protects the product body from small mechanical shocks. The car has an external trunk, which can carry hand luggage and other small items.
Snowmobile design
The design of the snowmobile is really well thought out, simple and functional. Skis and tracks are used to move through the snow without extra effort. Otherwise, the design and movement system differs little from that of a car.
Design
Therefore, the snowmobile can be called a very successful adaptation of standard equipment to weather conditions.
This type of transport is capable of transporting not only the driver himself, but also another passenger, or any cargo.
Thanks to this, you can not only get from one point to another, but also bring a fellow traveler or transport any objects.
