Motorcycle RM 65 (2003): technical characteristics, photos, videos
2003 Suzuki year code: K3
The RM65 is a mini motocross motorcycle that is built for young riders of all size classes and children's ages. The RM65 is ideal for young riders interested in high-impact touring or cross-country racing.
It features Suzuki's aggressive championship yellow design. What makes the bike special is its high-revving liquid-cooled engine, which produces consistent torque for mid-range rides and smooth throttle response.
Single-cylinder, two-stroke, 4-lobe valve engine, 64 cc. see liquid cooling, designed with the same power generation capability as the larger RM models. As with all designs, the RM65 features an electro-coated composite aluminum cylinder for better heat transfer and better piston sealing for more power.
It features aggressive styling in Suzuki Champion Yellow, with a 64cc liquid-cooled reed-valve engine designed with the same kind of power-enhancing features found in the larger RM models. Like all the RMs, it features a composite-electro-plated aluminum cylinder for better heat transfer and better piston sealing—and power. The exhaust-port bridge is convex, reducing scuffing for longer piston life, and the cylinder itself is bolted directly to the crankcases without cylinder stud bolts. Wide, dual O-rings on the head pipe improved exhaust-system-to-cylinder sealing, and the oval-section exhaust silencer can be repacked.
The engine is tuned to produce the type of mid-range torque and smooth throttle response that youngsters appreciate, with a large airbox, 24mm carburetor, four-petal reed valve and CDI ignition. The transmission and clutch are built for smooth shifting and short throws, the shift drum riding in needle roller bearings, and the ends of the shift forks are hardened to resist wear. And oil sight window makes it easy to check the transmission oil level.
The RM65 chassis is designed to accommodate a range of rider heights and weights. The single-backbone, dual-cradle high-tensile-steel-tube carries frame a rectangular steel swingarm using a progressive suspension linkage. Seat height can be adjusted with optional-length link rods available in 1mm length increments. Each 1mm change in link rod length raises or lowers the seat by 2mm.
Relatively flat handlebars work for riders with varying arm lengths, and tapered roller bearings in the steering head reduce the effort needed to turn the bars.
Leading-axle 33mm front forks with 0.27-rated springs deliver 210mm of wheel travel and feature adjustable rebound damping. A nitrogen-charged piggyback-reservoir rear shock carries a 4.9-rated spring and delivers 240mm of wheel travel through a progressive linkage. Aluminum rims carry a 60/100-14 front tire and a 80/100-12 rear tire.
The left rear subframe tube is detachable, allowing easier access to the air filter and rear shock. Wide, cast-steel foot pegs ride on thick brackets.

WE'RE TESTING THE 2005 SUZUKI RM85L
2005 Suzuki RM85L. This bike test is taken from the April 2006 issue of MXA.
The RM85 minicycle is a staple in Suzuki's recreational racing scene. More recently, drivers have liked Davy Millsaps, Nico Izzi and Blake Wharton have taken the yellow mini to the major championships. However, while all these kids are constantly growing (especially Davy), their trusty mini-bikes are not. This leaves many young people struggling with larger, more powerful 250F four-strokes or feeling like mammoths on their minis. There is a solution. The answer is "Big Wheel". In Suzuki's case, they put the "L" designation after the RM85 to make the RM85L. The "L" means it's a big wheel, but it's easily identified by its larger wheels and increased ground clearance. The RM85L is designed for the 85+ riders who are trying to move up to 250F.
STRENGTHS OF RM85L
Differences: Before highlighting the yellow rocket's strengths, it is useful to mention the differences between the RM85 and RM85L. Instead of a 17-inch front tire and 14-inch rear, the L has a 19/16 combo (along with a one-inch difference in seat height). Overall height has been increased by 2.6 inches, ground clearance by an inch, and weight by nine pounds.
powerband: Why is the RM85L such a good bike? Its little brother, the RM85, is a winner. The L has the same powertrain, frame and suspension. MXA test riders raved about the usable range. The low to midrange punch was punchy and powerful; a trait minibike racers demand. Luckily the bike is designed for big kids because the powerband is not for the faint of heart. At the same time, one flick of the throttle and every kid from Billy Beginner to Robbie Racer will enjoy plenty of power. It's not about how fast the RM85L runs, it's about how fast you want it to run. We like it. The top end isn't the strongest part of the engine, but it still barks before it fails.
Appeal: The RM85L engine was no surprise to any of the MXA test riders. After all, it's the same engine as the smaller RM85. What pleased test riders was that the “L” version handled bumps and G-outs. Mini bike riders usually have to put their weight on the back of the bike and hang on for dear life due to the big hits on the RM85. This is not the case when you drive on "L". Why? It's all on wheels. The larger wheel size covers more surface area, which in turn allows the bike to roll over bumps instead of being swallowed up. Test riders also noted that the RM85L was very stable at high speeds, giving them confidence to hold the throttle through long corners and across straights.
Ergos: Typically, when a manufacturer decides to offer a larger version of an existing model, they forget the nuances that can arise when changing wheels. Not Suzuki. There are no ergonomic or braking issues because the RM85L shines in many of the right places.
RM85L WEAKNESSES
Springs: Tester's number one complaint with the RM85L was that the suspension was too firm.
However, depending on how quickly Junior grows, he may find forks and shocks to suit his liking. Beginners and intermediate riders will want to choose softer settings to soak up the shock, while experts will do just fine with the standard settings. If every mini racer in the world had Expert-like speed, we wouldn't be complaining about forks and bumps, but that's not the case. Side: It shouldn't be a surprise that several MXA test riders complained about problems turning the big wheel. Larger wheels, a raised seat height and ground clearance allow the RM85L to feel swollen compared to the svelte RM85 mini. Small riders have a harder time starting a turn, and several experienced riders felt that the bike was not as easy to ride as the small model. Taller test riders didn't complain and loved the extra legroom in ruts and tight corners.
WHAT DO WE THINK?
The RM85L is as cool as the other side of the cushion. It's perfect for any mini rider trying to move up to bigger bikes. The "L" does a great job of making the big step easier. Obviously, the big wheels take the RM85L out of the usual milieu of the mini-bike classes, turning it into the "Big Wheel" class, but that's the way of the world with transitional machines. If you're too big for a mini but too small for a 250F, this is a chance to get your beak wet while you wait for the growth hormone to kick in.

New Suzuki crossovers are coming: a competitor to the Creta, a three-row flagship and others
Maruti Suzuki (a subsidiary of Suzuki) is preparing a whole host of new models for India, where it remains the largest automaker. The first-born of the “new wave” can be considered the subcompact hatch Celerio of the second generation: this “five-door” has already been presented and is on sale. At the beginning of next year, it will be joined by the Baleno hatchback and the Brezza SUV (ex-Vitara Brezza), which have changed their image. And then, over the next three years, at least four more new SUVs will follow, Autocar India reports, citing a recent dealer conference.
One of the upcoming new products is already familiar to us - this is a small SUV Suzuki Jimny. At the same time, the Indian version will supposedly have a “zest”: the local Jimny will have a five-door. But the media do not rule out the appearance of a three-door version (aka global). The main competitor of the Suzuki all-terrain vehicle will be the new generation Mahindra Thar.
The current global Suzuki Jimny. The SUV currently only comes in three-door versions
Another future premiere is a crossover less than four meters long (such cars are entitled to tax incentives in India), which is still known under the internal factory index YTB. Maruti Suzuki already has a cross in this category (up to 4 meters) - the above-mentioned Brezza. However, the new SUV, according to Autocar, firstly, will be built on a more modern Heartect platform (the Brezza is based on the old Global C “trolley”), and secondly, the YTB will be a step higher; they plan to sell it through a separate “premium » Nexa dealer network. Let us remind you that in India, the “prestigious” models of Maruti Suzuki are the Ciaz sedan, the Ignis minicross, the Baleno hatch, the S-Cross crossover (for us it is the SX4) and the three-row compact van with an “off-road” body kit XL6. Well, the Indians also write that YTB may get a design based on last year’s coupe-like Futuro-e concept. The serial compact SUV is aimed at competing with expensive trim levels of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV300.
Maruti Suzuki Futuro-e Concept
The next new model bears the corporate index YFG, by Indian standards it belongs to the class of mid-size SUVs (4 to 4.4 m long), the main competitors will be the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Tata Harrier. According to Autocar, the new Maruti Suzuki will be a redesigned Toyota crossover, and the “original” has also not yet been presented. It is expected that these SUVs will be made on the DNGA platform from Daihatsu (a variation of Toyota's TNGA).
Finally, Maruti Suzuki is preparing a three-row crossover (Y17), and already itself. The Indians believe that the model can displace the XL6 from the company’s lineup, and one of the main competitors of the flagship will be the Mahindra XUV700 and the Hyundai Alcazar (stretched Creta).
Most likely, new Indian-made crossovers will also appear in Africa and Southeast Asia. But they are unlikely to get to Europe - as well as to Russia. Our next Suzuki premiere will be the third generation SX4.
SUZUKI INTRODUCES NEW S-CROSS
Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled its latest car model, S-CROSS. This is a high-class car with improved design and functionality, developed taking into account the preferences of modern consumers. The powerful and bold aesthetic of S-CROSS sets new standards of quality. The car has such important characteristics as economical fuel consumption, high power, all-wheel drive and the use of advanced technologies in the field of safety and communications.
Bold style
S-CROSS is the latest SUV class model. After all, the Suzuki brand has been producing true off-road vehicles for more than 50 years.
“Bold, sophisticated, versatile. The all-new S-CROSS is a car that perfectly embodies these three concepts,” said chief engineer Shigeru Aoyama at the world premiere.
The assertive character of the new product is conveyed in a bold modern design. The streamlined radiator grille with a piano lacquer finish is in perfect harmony with the stylish three-point super-bright LED headlights. Silver trim at the front and rear and the brutal shape of the wheel arches emphasize the athletic figure of the new S-CROSS. A complete and unique image will tell without words about the strong character of the car and its owner.
The body also has a recognizable premium design. The large windshield and panoramic sunroof create a feeling of spaciousness and comfort in the cabin. Ergonomic leather seats with original decorative trim correspond to the daring character of the car. The three-dimensional wide-format dashboard looks strict and impressive. Solutions such as a 9-inch multimedia system display with the ability to wirelessly connect a smartphone, displaying all information about the car, and an ergonomic control puck for the ALLGRIP SELECT all-wheel drive system, located on the center console, make the interior modern and technological.
Functionality
The new S-CROSS is able to satisfy the diverse needs of car enthusiasts. It can comfortably accommodate 5 people, and there will still be enough space. Comfortable front seats do not hinder the comfort of rear passengers, who can also adjust the backrest of the rear sofa for greater comfort on the road. The cabin provides plenty of functional storage space for items you might need on the go. The comfortable and spacious luggage compartment (430-liters) can easily accommodate everything you need for various outdoor activities and recreation with family and friends.
The sliding panels of the panoramic sunroof create a large opening in the roof, from which the view can be enjoyed from any seat in the car. When the hatch is closed, the total length of the glass panels is 1000 mm. When open, the length of the opening is 560 mm.
Hi-tech
The 1.4-liter BOOSTERJET turbo engine with a wide torque shelf, which is equipped with the Suzuki S-CROSS, has direct fuel injection and a 48 V SHVS mild hybrid system. This car is literally full of energy! Other advantages of the car include a four-mode ALLGRIP SELECT all-wheel drive system, a 9-inch multimedia system display and the use of advanced safety technologies.
New hybrid powertrain design
Suzuki's new hybrid system combines a newly developed internal combustion engine coupled with a single electric motor (MGU) and an automated gearbox (AGS). This scheme allows you to drive both in hybrid mode and using only electric traction, which leads to a significant reduction in fuel consumption.
The highly efficient power plant improves the level of comfort due to the ability to travel in electric mode and smooth start of the internal combustion engine, and also improves the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle.
Safety
The latest S-CROSS is equipped with Suzuki's proprietary Safety Support system. It significantly improves active driving safety and includes automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, a 360-degree camera, as well as lane departure warning and warning and cross-traffic alert. , which helps when reversing out of a parking lot, road sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, hill start assistance and others.
New body colors
Suzuki S-CROSS is available in eight colors that will appeal to even the most discerning car enthusiasts: Silky Silver Metallic, White, Cool White Pearl Titan Dark Gray Pearl Metallic, Cosmic Black Pearl Metallic, Canyon Brown Pearl Metallic, Energetic Red Pearl, Sphere Blue Pearl.
The new Suzuki S-CROSS will be produced at the Magyar Suzuki plant in Hungary. The start of sales in Europe is scheduled for the end of this year.
At the world premiere, Suzuki Motor Corporation President Toshihiro Suzuki proudly stated, “The all-new S-CROSS will offer drivers the opportunity to experience a new world of adventure and enjoy a sense of complete freedom.”
