Controllability

Ease of control of a motorcycle is a very important characteristic for novice bikers; the Yamaha EBR 125 has an excellent one, since it has low weight and power, as well as reliable brakes. Patency

The Yamaha YBR 125 performs well on country roads and even off-road. Naturally, this is not an enduro and it will be problematic to overcome a mud pit, but it can handle the rest with ease. If necessary, you can install suitable tires on it and its cross-country ability will increase even more. However, keep in mind that you should not jump on an ebrike; the suspension is not designed for this kind of driving and may break.

Well, in case of big difficulties on the way, the YBR 125 can simply be carried by hand, since it weighs a little more than 100 kilograms.

Easy to repair

Spare parts for the Yamaha EBR 125 are very easy to obtain and are inexpensive. Therefore, in case of damage, you can always repair it without problems. And if you install protective bars on a motorcycle, then it will be almost impossible to cause any harm to it.

A common failure among beginners is damage to the plastic headlight fairing when falling to the side. In this case, it is recommended to simply replace the headlight with a round one. All parts for 125 cc bikes are quite cheap, and if you don’t fall or have an accident, you will be able to ride the Yamaha YBR 125 for a long time without repairs.

A little history of the model

Since the introduction of Yamaha YBR 125 motorcycles, they have undergone many improvements and changes, becoming better and more reliable.

2004 – launch of sales of the first generation Yamaha YBR 125. In Russia, only versions with a trapezoid-shaped headlight and semi-fairing were sold. Features of this generation are:

  • A sensor for the side stand not being retracted appears on the panel.
  • The brake pads, calipers, discs, front forks, mirrors and colors were also updated.

2010 - the company developed the fourth generation YBR 125 motorcycle. It has a significantly updated appearance, but these motorcycles are not supplied to Russia.

Currently, there are quite a lot of small motorcycles in the 125 cc class on the market. The motors of other models are approximately similar in parameters, only the build quality differs. Many owner reviews and reviews show that the Yamaha EBR 125 is the most practical in its category.

Don't be fooled by the motorcycle's partial Chinese origin.
Real professionals worked on it and were given the non-trivial task of designing a small-capacity sportbike that was both high-quality and inexpensive. It is not known what tricks they had to go to in order to ultimately demonstrate the Minsk 125 Sport motorcycle to the public, but the work was clearly not easy. Judge for yourself: a modern duplex frame, a swingarm with forged tips, disc brakes, chic design, a functional instrument panel, a peppy 1-cylinder engine producing 11 hp. and 9 Nm of torque. The only things that stand out from the overall picture are the 5-speed gearbox instead of the 6-speed and the carburetor instead of the injector. They also worked hard on the ergonomics of the Minsk 125 Sport. The compact and lightweight (110 kg) motorcycle is comfortable for both tall and short bikers to sit on, and there are no problems with reaching the ground with your feet. If you wish, you can maintain an upright position, like on a classic bike, but you can also lie down on the tank to feel like a real racer. True, the gas tank only holds 7 liters of fuel, but this is quite enough considering the consumption of about 2.5-3 liters per 100 kilometers.

The suspensions are not adjustable, but they are good without it. The problem with many Chinese motorcycles is that they are designed to carry the weight of puny Chinese, but the Minsk 125 Sport was developed for the CIS market, and it copes with the load perfectly. The presence of a passenger, of course, affects the length of the braking distance, but in general the bike’s braking system is quite good, with discs on both wheels. However, I would like the rear brake to be more effective.

History of creation and international success

Motorcycles from the Minsk company appeared on the market back in 1951. Over its 70-year history, the manufacturer has sold more than 7 million motorcycles in more than 50 countries.

The basic model is the M1A motorcycle. Modifications of this model have become widely known due to their versatility - the vehicle is suitable for both simple road driving and off-road use with an installed Enduro power unit.


After World War II, the German DKW plant was “transported” to the USSR, or more precisely to Moscow. There the plant began producing the first motorcycle models under the M1A brand. In 1951, the production of this brand of motorcycle was transferred to the Minsk Motorcycle Plant.

A large number of Minsk motor vehicles were sent to Vietnam and other Asian countries. This was facilitated by the high quality of components, powerful technical performance and affordable price. Such success led to a worldwide calling, and engineers had to modify their own line. In Vietnam, they even organized a fan club for motorcycles, Minsk, which officially opened in 1988. It is noteworthy that the club annually celebrates motorcycle day, attracting an increasing number of members and fans of this equipment.

In 1991, the Minsk motorcycle received an update that brought its technical performance to almost its maximum. That year, the number of products produced reached 225 thousand every year.

In 1999, the vehicle received the prestigious international “European Arc” award, which once again emphasizes the value of the motorcycle outside the countries of the former Soviet Union. After that, the award-winning model was modified several times, which increased the demand for it in Europe.

MMVZ

Minsk motorcycles were rapidly gaining popularity both in the USSR and in foreign markets. Their deliveries were made to 45 countries, and the total number exceeded 6.5 million.

From the very first years, the brand has been actively involved in motorsports, mainly in cross-country and circuit racing. The first cross country “Minsk M-201K” and enduro “M-201M” were created in 1956. Three samples of the first highway-ring ShK-125 with a record 23-horsepower engine for that time were produced in 1961. A decade later, the first road racing motorcycle with a developed fairing, the M-211, appeared, followed by the MMVZ-3.216 (1977) and MMVZ-3.227 (1986).

Significant milestones in the history of Minsk motorcycles were the Minsk-Pamir (1969) and Brest-Vladivostok (1971) motorcycle races.

1973, “Minsk” MMVZ-3.111

A new model designation system, developed by the VNII-Motoprom of the USSR, was introduced in 1973 on the new Minsk MMVZ-3.111, which received the USSR State Quality Mark:

On the set of the Top Gear Vietnam Special, the Minsk motorcycle was driven by Richard Hammond.

By the early 1990s, motorcycle production had increased to 220,000 units per year. In 1999, the Minsk brand received the Arch of Europe Award for its approval in the international market.

Disadvantages of Minsk 125 motorcycle engines

  • Vibration during operation;
  • Weak power;
  • Slow acceleration;
  • The need to prepare a fuel mixture of gasoline and oil, which is very inconvenient when traveling long distances. Not every gas station sells oil for MMVZ, so you have to carry it with you.

Conclusion. Simplicity of design, high reliability, optimal technical characteristics, along with efficiency and safety of operation, long-term maintainability (use of detailing with repair dimensions) made the engine, and with it the Minsk motorcycle, popular among the people. Very convenient for use on the farm, especially in rural areas for going out into nature for hunting, fishing, picking mushrooms and nuts. You can close your eyes to all the listed weaknesses and shortcomings; I say this from my own experience. All of the above breakdowns can be easily fixed with your own hands. There are no problems with the availability of spare parts for sale. It couldn’t be easier to overhaul an engine with your own hands, except that you may need the help of a turner to bore the cylinder to the repair size, followed by honing, if the diameter taper along the cylinder liner mirror exceeds 0.06 - 0.08 mm. Reliability rating is “good”.

Minsk

The Minsk MMVZ-3.11211 has the engine 3.1122-10100-03. In its basic detailing, little has changed structurally in comparison with previous models and modifications of the 125 cm³ engine.

Differences between ICE 3.1122-10100-03 and previous engines:

  • Main bearings are installed at the crankshaft cheeks to increase rigidity and improve engine stability, and oil seals are installed behind the bearings. On early models, the oil seals were installed first, followed by the bearings.
  • The oil supply to the inner bearings from the crank chamber has been optimized, as well as to the left outer ball bearing from the oil cavity. In older internal combustion engine models, the right bearing was lubricated by oil supply from the gearbox, the left (inner and outer) bearings received oil from the cover cavity. The left inner bearing was not sufficiently lubricated.
  • In order to increase the rigidity of the crankshaft, the diameter of the journals was increased from 17 to 20 mm; accordingly, bearings No. 304 were replaced by bearings 6-204 with a higher accuracy class. With a change in the bearing arrangement and an improvement in the lubrication system, the second oil seal on the right side of the crankshaft was removed to protect the generator. The right axle was shortened, at the same time the width of the right part of the crankcase and gearbox cover was reduced by 10 mm. Both parts of the crankcase and the left cover were shortened by 30 mm shorter and their shape was changed.
  • To control the oil level in the crankcase, older engines had an oil dipstick; 3.1122-10100-03 does not have an oil dipstick; instead, there is a control hole with a plug.

It’s worth telling more about this motorcycle. After all, a whole era began with him, a new generation of cross-country motorcycles Minsk. Among all the other cars in the plant's lineup, this one was special. She may not have received the “quality mark,” but she fully deserves it.

This interesting Minsk motorcycle, the technical characteristics of which we are going to tell you, appeared in the 80s of the last century. Many samples of this model are still in working condition, which indicates the high quality and reliability of the equipment.

Considering that the production of this popular model ended almost 20 years ago, spare parts for the Minsk MMVZ-3.221 motorcycle can be very difficult to obtain. For example, an engine for a cross-country version is very rare. Therefore, it is easier to purchase a version for the road and bring it to life with your own hands.

The cross-country model can hardly be called a high-speed one. On average, it reaches a speed of 40-50 km/h, and the road version is slightly faster – up to 65.

Initially, the engine of the Minsk motorcycle was “tailored” to 76 grade gasoline. After a little modification it easily transfers to 92nd.

The brakes are drum brakes and are quite good. The suspension is quite soft and copes well with uneven surfaces. In general, the machine can be adapted for universal purposes. She drives around the city very well.

This is where the real Russian motorcycle is

I was very, very young when my dad exchanged his IZH Planet 3 motorcycle for a new Minsk, at that time it was not only new, but the last in the model range. This Minsk has experienced such things………, well, in general, I’ll tell you now.

The first time I rode this motorcycle was as a four-year-old child as a passenger on the tank. We often rode it to the village to visit my grandmother. One day my father left the motor to spend the night on the street and, as a result, the tank was stolen from it for gasoline; this was the first replacement of a part of this motor. At that time, the bike was in the factory type cocoa gray color. In general, they put it in the garage and, due to its uselessness, it stood there for about three years, during which time the rubber on it became unusable and in some way unknown to me, the ignition and carburetor disappeared. And suddenly, when I was probably 9 years old, my technical abilities showed up and I decided to restore it. I forced my father to buy new tires and other spare parts, but I did it myself and alone, although I didn’t understand anything about it at all. After the first attempts, I pierced the new wheel tube with a pry bar when beading. after that I didn’t see the spendthrift for another couple of years... since my father loaned it to his uncle, who killed the spendthrift as best he could and as best he could, and my father soon returned the killed spendthrift to my hollow...

This is where my motorcycle life began, I was glad that at least he rode.

For a couple of years I taught myself how to drive and repair this moto, and now I’m 14 years old, I could call myself an ace. From all over the village, different people came to me for repairs on different scoops, especially in terms of wiring, because even then I was better at this than some, and, I repeat, I am self-taught!

The time had come for the cylinder-piston group to completely wear out, and since there was no money for a new one, I at least changed the piston, but it didn’t do much.

I decided to make something more powerful and installed a 3m sunrise engine in Minsk and changed the front fork too. So the front end, tank, engine and exhaust have already been changed. I drove this piece of junk throughout the summer and fall of 2008, including winter. But the sunrise is known to everyone for its unreliability and the engine became unusable after the first year of use.

By the spring of 2009, my dad’s friend gave me another Minsk, and from this I made a pit bike on an ant wheel, rode it for a day and disassembled it for parts.

From that moment on, all that was left of my first moto was the engine and the rear wheel, which is shown in the assembly in the main photo. I spent the summer riding in Minsk, a friend of my father’s, and then rarely communicated with spendthrifts since already in 2009 I was studying in another city.

In the summer of 2011, it was time for improvements, I began to craft a new exhaust, made a monoshock absorber, installed a new piston, arches (front and rear) and a saddle from Java 634, a fork from Java 639 and a piece of tail from Planet 5, a MICARB carburetor. Everything that happened can be seen in the photo.

Since the beginning of this year, I have been working on Minsk again on weekends, installed both wheels at 16, an extended pendulum and a rear sprocket from Java 634, and studded both wheels with iron. In general, I did a winter cross-country race in Minsk.

This was a story only about my Minsk cars, during this time I went through the motos: IZH Jupiter 5, IZH Planet 5, Java 634,633. and this year I bought a Japanese car: a Suzuki Bandit 400. That’s it!

External tuning

Drivers often wonder how to paint a motorcycle. In general, this is also tuning. It is better not to change the color radically, just apply different designs. This way you can be guaranteed to avoid problems with traffic police officers. Be sure to install a windshield and protective arches.

This not only improves safety, but also significantly increases travel comfort. Alloy wheels are often installed. They have a more beautiful appearance, increasing the attractiveness of the motorcycle. Another type of tuning that is often found is making the lights brighter. In fact, it's not worth doing this.

It will not be possible to significantly increase the illumination of the road, but the load on the generator will increase. Therefore, think about whether you are ready to regularly repair the generator for the sake of a little brighter light.

To begin with, it is necessary to note the modern design of the motorcycle, which is quite different from the appearance of the classic factory models. Ergonomic plastic casing, chrome parts, high-quality windshield fairing, as well as spectacular lighting make the motorcycle special and, to some extent, unique. The powerful engine, capable of developing more than 100 km/h, has earned positive reviews about the Minsk S4 200.

The model's braking system also remains excellent, as does the long-travel hydraulic suspension. Despite the fact that the equipment has practically no space for the necessary things, the driver can use additional panniers and attach the passenger helmet to the rear trunk. This motorcycle is hardly intended for comfortable travel over long distances, however, going on a picnic 40–80 km from home is quite possible.

We can also say that the motorcycle fully justifies the trust of its owners, showing good results both in city traffic jams and on country roads.

Pros and cons of the model

To begin with, it is worth noting the positive aspects of the motorcycle, of which there are quite a lot:

  • Reasonable price (about 43–48 thousand rubles for a new motorcycle).
  • Powerful engine.
  • Possibility of purchasing spare parts in any specialized store;
  • Ease of repair and operation.
  • Multifunctionality (you can drive both on the steppe and on hilly terrain).
  • The motorcycle does not require special care - just changing the oil, as well as the chain and sprockets when worn out.
  • You can safely drive this vehicle even at low temperatures (down to -34 degrees Celsius).

The model also has weaknesses that many owners have identified:

  • Large vibration when driving, despite the quality of the suspension;

Perhaps we should start by repainting the frame and other parts of the motorcycle. The first thing to do is remove the handlebars, seat, tank, engine, wheels, fork and other parts to leave a bare frame. Sandblast the parts to be repainted or remove the old paint layer using special attachments for an angle grinder/drill. An attachment on a drill for an emery wheel with Velcro is also very effective for this. Be sure to get rid of pockets of corrosion. The next stage is puttying. This is necessary to get rid of deep scratches and level the surface. Parts with a leveled surface are degreased to prepare for priming. Apply primer in 2 layers. It is the result of the evolution of those design solutions that were incorporated into such a legendary model as MMVZ-3.221, which became famous everywhere as an indestructible and highly repairable equipment. The operation of a motorcycle of this model is focused mainly on the conditions of public roads, as well as dirt roads and forest roads.

It is implemented on the principle of “nothing superfluous” - only the most necessary solutions for traveling on dirt roads, as well as forest paths or even small streams.

Probably every motorcyclist is a fan of dynamic riding, but the Minsk motorcycle is not particularly designed for this. Therefore, first of all, owners strive to modify the engine. You can easily add a couple of horsepower here.

Typically, cylinder boring is used for this. This way you can increase the compression ratio, and, accordingly, the engine power. Let's take a closer look at how this is done:

  1. The block is ground down by 1.5 mm, the lower edge of the block head is also ground down, also by 3 mm. The motorcycle cylinder is being modified on a lathe;
  2. Increase the size of the outlet and inlet openings;
  3. Install new valves, better than those made in Japan;
  4. The piston is being modified. They take a standard piston and fit it to the modified engine. If you do not have a special lathe, or you are not entirely confident in your abilities, then it is better to give the engine to an experienced lathe.

After such processing, the engine will receive an additional 1-2 hp. But, it is worth considering that it will be more demanding on nutrition; here it needs to fill with gasoline with an octane number of at least 92.

Repair and tuning

Maintainability, low cost of spare parts and a large amount of universal tuning at an affordable price are one of the advantages of Chinese motorcycles. Minsk x 250 is no exception in this matter, despite its Belarusian roots. After all, it is produced in the PRC, and in the fraternal republic they simply screw wheels onto ready-made copies, put a couple of stickers on them and send them to dealer showrooms.

Repair

It is easy to independently maintain and, if necessary, repair the bike. Its design is simple and logical, and any motorcyclist who is not afraid to get their hands dirty can figure it out. But if you were afraid of getting them dirty, you probably wouldn't buy an enduro, right? And for any operations with this motorcycle, a regular set of tools, a garage and, optionally, a couple of friends for company will be enough.

Spare parts

The Minsk x250 is currently being produced, and it is also assembled in Belarus, so there are no problems with spare parts. Dealers usually keep only consumables and the most popular parts in stock, but everything else can be ordered to order in a short time. Many units are suitable from other Chinese enduros, but they need to be selected by trial and error.

Exhaust system

This element must be modified if the engine has been tuned. The problem arises due to the fact that the standard muffler is not designed for increased exhaust gas pressure.

As a result, in certain operating modes, the motorcycle engine begins to choke. Optimal mufflers were installed on a motocross motorcycle, but it is now almost impossible to purchase such a part. Such versions have not been produced for more than 20 years, and therefore spare parts for them have not been produced either.

You can make a high-quality muffler yourself. To understand how to make it yourself, let's look at how it works. Using a muffler of a certain shape allows you to create reverse draft. It allows the remaining combustible mixture to be sucked into the engine. A resonator is used for this.

The lineup

At the moment, three main models are produced, as well as a redesigned Minsk motorcycle in the old design. Here is the current model range:

  • Model C125;
  • Model D4 125;
  • Model M125.

Also, as already mentioned, a fairly old model MMVZ-3.1131 is produced, now it is called Leader. This motorcycle managed to retain all the main features of the original model; especially fans of Soviet motorcycles like the design, which, if possible, has not been changed. Also, Minsk tuning is often carried out with this option.

Model C125

This option is considered basic, so it makes sense to start a review of the Minsk motorcycle with it. This modification was created for any type of road. Also, the technical characteristics of the Minsk motorcycle of all modifications are based on this bike.

This model can be used even off-road; for this purpose, high-quality tires with a high tread are installed. But such a modification somewhat limits the speed on the highway; vibration is felt when driving over 60 km/h.

A two-stroke engine has one cylinder. This is quite enough for optimal operation. Consumption per 100 km when driving on a highway does not exceed 3 liters; on a country road this figure approaches 4 liters. The engine is started using a kick starter.

This method allowed us to achieve maximum reliability in any conditions. The weight of the motorcycle does not exceed 120 kg. The small size, as well as the presence of a two-stroke engine, leads to the fact that this technique is often used for a moped.

Model D4 125

This modification also has a single-cylinder engine, but here it is four-stroke. In essence, this is a sports motorcycle, the high number of revolutions allows you to maintain high speeds for a long time.

The power allows the motorcycle to accelerate to 100 km/h. The presence of 5 gears in the box makes the bike quite responsive and capable of rapid acceleration. Fuel consumption here does not exceed 2.6 liters per 100 km on the highway. There is an electric starter.

The net weight of the model is 100 kg. Some disadvantages, according to many, are the welded passenger footrests. Even if they are not needed, you will not be able to remove them. But this characteristic does not reduce the popularity of this modification.

Model M125


Of course, a review of the Minsk motorcycle could not do without mentioning the most popular model.
It is Minsk 125 that is the most popular modification. It is very unpretentious, can withstand any road very well, and we can say about this motorcycle that it is indestructible. Also, repairing it in practice turns out to be a fairly simple task. Even compression, which can vary on other engines in the series, does not create problems here. The engine here is single-cylinder, two-stroke. Reviews say that there are no problems with it. It consumes the bare minimum of fuel, about 2.5 liters on the highway.

The basic version is offered with drum brakes, but if desired, you can order a modification with a disc brake. You can also purchase a Minsk motorcycle with a sidecar, this will allow you to transport additional loads on it. The weight of this model is 120 kg.

Minsk Leader

This modification almost completely replicates MMVZ-3.1131. There are some changes, but overall the descriptions are the same. It is worth noting that, unlike the base model, there is a slightly larger engine capacity, which makes the motorcycle more playful. Otherwise, it completely repeats the legendary Soviet model.

When deciding whether to buy this variety, you should take into account that the shock absorbers are not very good, which reduces the level of comfort.
