We disassemble the pulley

The variator pulley is quite easy to disassemble. This unit consists of a housing, a back cover and rollers. You need to disassemble the pulley in order to inspect the rollers. There are 6 of them in total, they should not be worn out. Otherwise, they will need to be replaced.

The rollers in the variator pulley have a direct impact on the traction and speed of the scooter. During operation, the rollers wear out and their weight changes. As a result, the dynamics of the vehicle changes. Worn rollers will need to be replaced with new ones; they cannot be repaired.

The variator pulley and the variator itself are assembled in the reverse order. But before you begin assembly, do not forget to inspect the oil seal on the crankshaft. It must be intact and not heavily soiled. If there is too much dust, clean the oil seal from dirt before assembly. Also inspect the main components of the scooter; if necessary, lubricate them.

Features of variator limitation

The limiter can be a special plate placed near the weights, or a metal ring installed between the variator brushes. Both the first and second plugs have a common goal - to prevent the brushes from shrinking completely. As a result, the belt cannot reach its maximum radius, thereby blocking further acceleration. Interestingly, the engine will gain speed, but the CVT limiter will not allow it to gain greater speed. To prevent damage to the engine from such manipulations, a special limiter is added to the commutator. The bottom line is that when maximum speed is reached, the fuel will not ignite.

Before you remove the installed speed limiter on your scooter, you need to get the tools. A case with screwdrivers and keys is the best option.

Disassemble the variator and get rid of the belt along with the gear. A restrictive ring will appear in front of you. It is enough to remove it, and then put the parts in their places.

This is what the limiter ring looks like

Let's take it off completely

This is what a variator will look like without a ring

It also happens that the ring is not in this place. In this case, you need to unscrew the inner cheek of the variator mechanism. On the outside there is usually a thrust plate, under which weights are mounted. After unscrewing the plate, you should put the remaining parts in their places. There is no need to remount the plate on the scooter.

In some cases, scooter riders are faced with a situation where the CVT ring and plate are missing, but there is still a maximum speed limit. In such a situation, you need to check the bushing. It may contain a protrusion that acts as a ring. There are two options for solving the problem - purchase a new bushing, or ask a turner to grind the protrusion. It is important to ensure that the surface does not become oversharpened. After regrinding the treated unit, you need to reassemble the variator.

Payment via PayPal

After selecting payment via PayPal, the PayPal payment system will launch, where you need to select the payment method: bank card or PayPal account.

How to Remove CVT on Scooter 150

How to remove a scooter's variator

Unfortunately, the task of removing the variator from a scooter without the use of special tools is difficult to implement in practice, and in many cases impossible.

It should be warned: trying to remove the variator using collective farm methods will not lead to anything good, it is better to spend a little time making pullers and not tempt fate, but this is such friendly advice

Depending on the scooter model, the front variator impeller may be of different designs, which requires the use of different types of pullers to remove it.

We insert the removable studs into the special holes in the impeller, put the wrench on the nut, attach the puller arms to it or simply hold it with your hand (if you can hold it) and unscrew the nut on the stud (on the right). hand thread). We will have a homemade puller that will make this easy and simple.

The design of the puller is easy to understand from the photograph. And what is there to understand? The two plates are fastened with a bolt, at the ends of which the working pins are welded within half an hour

In this video I will show you how to remove the variator

Without a puller, we will need two types of fastening for this.

For the front removal For the other type of variator, we use a slightly different pick-up design: several pieces with the teeth of an old unwanted variator plate and a piece of tire welded to a matching metal ring to keep it safe.

In the same way, we place the puller on the external variator pulley, place the lever on something or simply hold it and unscrew the nut .

Remove the belt, drive the front pins with your fingers inside the variator and remove it from the pin.

Similarly, to remove the rear version: insert the removable pins into the clutch drum holes, push the levers into something or hold them and use a wrench to unscrew the nut on the reverse input shaft.

Remove the clutch drum from the shaft, then remove the rear variator . If you are interested in how you can paint his rear variator read the article: How to take apart a scooter's rear variator

This type of front variator can be unscrewed using a chain puller. For such work, it is advisable to choose a more powerful puller. About it.

Design and principle of operation

The fundamental elements are two pulleys and, accordingly, a belt. The cut belt has a trapezoidal shape. The name of the belt (V-belt) comes from the principle of its operation. The transition of the belt to the maximum radius is similar to a wedge. As the pulleys wear out, the radius becomes smaller and the scooter loses speed.

The main condition for stable operation of the variator is its tightness on the pulleys and the absence of slippage. Experienced users of this type of technology claim that 100% absence of slippage cannot be avoided. But it is necessary to minimize it as much as possible. In case of severe slippage, the operation of the entire transmission is at risk. Breakdowns and replacement of parts cannot be avoided. In addition, efficiency is significantly reduced. A striking example of slippage is the drop in engine speed at the very start (the engine seems to be running, but the movement of the equipment is not significant).

Also, straight belt slippage depends on the pulley spring. If it has lost its rigidity, it must be replaced. In addition, unstable, deteriorated performance may be due to wear of the belt itself.

High-quality famous belts from 6000 km.

How else can you determine the correct operation of the variator? – when starting to move, the engine speed is the same until the start of acceleration. At maximum throttle, the engine speed should approximately correspond to the engine power. “People’s” craftsmen sometimes do some “alterations” so that the dynamic qualities of the scooter increase. Also, to speed up the scooter, there is an option to completely replace the variator. For example, you can buy a sports variator for a 50 or 150 cc scooter.

Problems when paying with bank cards

Sometimes difficulties may arise when paying with Visa/MasterCard bank cards. The most common of them:

  1. There is a restriction on the card for paying for online purchases
  2. A plastic card is not intended for making payments online.
  3. The plastic card is not activated for making payments online.
  4. There are not enough funds on the plastic card.

In order to solve these problems, you need to call or write to the technical support of the bank where you are served. Bank specialists will help you resolve them and make payments.

That's basically it. The entire process of paying for a book in PDF format on car repair on our website takes 1-2 minutes.

Removing the variator

A variator is a unit responsible for transmitting traction to the rear wheel. CVTs rarely fail because they are highly reliable, but sometimes there is a need to remove them. It won't take much time to disassemble the variator, but if you don't have the skills to work with tools, you'll have to tinker a lot.

To remove the variator you need to have a set of tools suitable specifically for your scooter, as well as a special lift. The work begins with dismantling the cover, then you need to perform the following operations:

  • The front and rear variators are located under the cover. We begin dismantling from the front device. Unscrew the nut on the drive pulley. Remove the nut and take out all the parts of the variator;
  • then you can remove the pulley itself;
  • remove the spitz washer and then the drive gear;
  • take out all the other parts.

It is important to remember the sequence of removing all elements of the variator in order to assemble it in the correct order. If you don’t rely heavily on memory, you can write it down or take a photo on your phone.
