IRBIS TTR 125 – characteristics of the most common PIT bike


Good pit bikes are made not only in China. This is confirmed by the Russian brand Irbis, born in Vladivostok in 2001. In addition to pits, the company produces scooters, snowmobiles, ATVs and components for them. Separate departments also develop accessories for bikers.

One of the most popular models of the company was the IRBIS TTR 125. A pit bike that organically intertwined the capabilities of a large touring enduro bike and its small size , allowing even schoolchildren to easily handle it.

A special highlight is that Russian legislation does not require a license to drive such transport, and it is impossible to register it.

You won’t find a large number of devices using this technology. There is one large speedometer dial in front of the driver. Interestingly, there are marks in both km and miles.

Other indicators except revolutions are missing.

The tachometer is made in the form of a small LCD display hidden under the general speedometer glass.

Rear end

The pit bike saddle is made in the style of motocross versions - long, narrow. According to user reviews, it is quite soft.

The inconvenience of sitting only appears on long trips.

  • There is enough space for two passengers; there is no division into driver/passenger. But the owners note that although it is possible to sit together, it is better to drive alone - the engine does not pull. Although the developers claim the opposite - no amenities are provided for the second room, no handles, no footrests, and (especially) a backrest.

    The design of the motorcycle is definitely designed for a single rider.

  • There is a small stem behind the saddle , but it is more likely designed as a mudguard; it has no practical use. And the location of the exhaust is almost nearby, forcing you to abandon the seat or trunk arrangement.
  • An interesting idea in the design section is to paint the side edges of the saddle in the color of the main plastic.
  • The plant offers two colors for the bike - black and red . The first has all the parts in the same tone with the exception of the chrome exhaust pipe. The second has plastic and the side edges of the saddle in red tones.
  • There are no rear optics.

    The back is without any lights.

Gas tank

The neck of the gas tank is in a standard place, made in the form of a large black cap with a “wing” under the arm. Fuel capacity - 3.2 liters .

Advantages and disadvantages

Like many other motorcycles, this model has a number of advantages:

  • Light weight;
  • Comfortable fit for short people (for example, teenagers);
  • The engine and other components are not covered by plastic casing, which allows for quick and easy repair or replacement;

Transmission and clutch

Irbis is equipped with a 4-speed gearbox. According to reviews from the owners, it works well, but when transferring from another motor, it will take some getting used to.

Unlike the standard sequential scheme, here the neutral is not between the first and second, but the lowest one. ( N-1-2-3-4 ). Otherwise, there are no complaints about the box.

But there are plenty of complaints about the chain drive: firstly, rapid wear of both the chain and the sprocket, and secondly, when driving through mud, the drive sprocket immediately becomes clogged - you have to clean it often.

Chain drive. On the first assemblies, rapid stretching of the chain was often noted. New versions include a chain tensioner pulley (below the rear sprocket). But the motorcycle also began to be equipped with a reinforced 428+ chain.

The chain tension roller to a certain extent increases the reliability of the motorcycle's final drive.

The clutch is similar to the Chinese versions, the discs are interchangeable. The operating principle is using an oil bath.

Brakes

Despite the budget class, the bike received disc brakes. The appearance and shape of the discs are of our own design.

One disk is installed on both axes. Drive - mechanics (in new versions hydraulics). Support - 2-piston.

The plastic used in production is of relatively low quality, which quite often leads to breakdowns when driving, so installing from Japanese analogues would be a good option.

Replacing the exhaust will not only increase power a little, but also make the sound more aggressive.
