Snowmobiles "Buran" are equipped with several types of carburetors. One of the most popular fuel devices is the Mikuni carburetor for Buran. This is an economical, trouble-free mechanism. Thanks to its simple design and ease of maintenance, it has won a lot of fans all over the world. All owner reviews about this type of carburetor are invariably positive.
Operation of technical equipment in winter requires a special approach to the quality of main components and mechanisms. The fuel mixture is prepared at constant sub-zero temperatures. Therefore, in the Buran snowmobile, the manufacturer practices installing a Mikuni carburetor on the Buran snowmobile.
The design of the Mikuni carburetor on Buran
The good thing about this carburetor is that it is attached directly to the engine pipe with two M6 bolts. There is no need to adjust the gaps; the fastening is rigid, classic, through two rectangular gaskets made of petrol-resistant rubber. The cross-section of the gasket material is 1 mm; the gaskets are glued to rectangular pipes in special grooves for fastening to the engine.
Two cables are stretched from the control handles of the Buran snowmobile. One cable controls the fuel supply, it is called gas, the second cable controls the enricher - the air damper. Both cables are equipped with bosses that are easily inserted into working fastening and control units.
- the distance between the M6 bolts for fastening the carburetor is 48 mm;
- the diameter of the passage hole for the fuel mixture entering the combustion chamber is 26 mm;
- the total height of the case is 138 mm.
⇓ First position - the flag is lowered down. The fuel channel is closed in this position.
Operating principle of the air damper
The presence of two full-fledged operating positions allows you to qualitatively regulate the quantity and volume of the enriched fuel mixture entering the ignition chamber of the internal combustion engine. Below (Fig. 2) is an analysis of each of the air damper positions.
Open channel position. The flag is raised, the additional fuel mixture supply channel is open. Additional fuel enters the engine combustion chamber, and the power unit develops maximum power.

The role of the flag in the carburetor
If you put the flag up, the engine begins to receive a significantly larger amount of fuel. At this moment, the snowmobile operates at increased crankshaft speeds. The use of a flag greatly facilitates the operation of the entire mechanism in the cold season: autumn, winter, early spring, frost and cold.
After starting a cold engine, you should thoroughly warm up the mechanism that has cooled in the cold overnight. The raised flag allows you to do this much faster than the standard mode. The snowmobile will run for a while on suction, quickly warm up and you can hit the road.
Once the engine has reached operating temperature, a small volume of the fuel mixture is sufficient for stable, uninterrupted operation. In a similar rhythm on a snowmobile, the engine enters an economical fuel consumption mode and can be operated for a long period of time.
Adjusting the Mikuni carburetor on a Buran
- instant start without difficulty;
- stable operation during operation;
- significant fuel savings;
- better safety of spare parts, components, parts.
- Before starting a cold engine, rotate screw 5 to set the throttle to a position so that there is a gap of 2...2.5 mm between the lower generatrix of the carburetor body and the base of the throttle.
The fuel mixture will become richer. In the case when the engine stalls and stops at the moment of sharp closing of the throttle, it is necessary to unscrew screw 4 by the same number of revolutions. The fuel mixture will become lean. If the carburetor is properly adjusted, screw 4 is unscrewed no more than two turns from the fully screwed position.
The Mikuni carburetor for Buran is an excellent technical solution for a snowmobile. Its installation and operation greatly simplifies the owner’s winter chores. Adjusting the mechanism is simple. It’s better to set it up correctly once, so you don’t have to look at it all winter. Owners give only laudatory reviews about this carburetor.
It is clear from the article that the type of carburetor described is reliable, durable, and unpretentious. The mechanism is simple, without technical frills, so all reviews about it are only positive. Wide unification, stable operation in any frost. The author recommends installing Mikuni carburetors on snowmobiles, motorcycles, and all light vehicles without a doubt. This technique will not let you down.

Carburetors that are most often found on a Buran snowmobile and their characteristics
K-65 carburetors were and are currently also installed on different domestically produced equipment, mainly the difference is in components, diffuser diameters, GTZ, LHC and atomizer along with the needle.
Transmission Maintenance
Maintenance of a snowmobile transmission consists of making adjustments, checking the condition of the variator belt, tightening threaded connections, cleaning external surfaces of dirt and carrying out lubrication work.
For reliable operation of the variator and increasing the durability of the variator belt, the relative position of the drive and driven pulleys is important.
Check the size indicated in Figure 4 (55±0.5 mm) from the end of the fixed drive disk to the end of the fixed driven disk using two rulers. If necessary, make adjustments as follows:
Check the condition of the variator belt. If the belt is very worn
(belt width less than 30mm) or damaged, replace the belt.
To remove the variable speed belt:
Attention!
Contact with grease on the working surfaces of the variator discs is not allowed.
includes checking and adjusting the chain tension, checking the level and changing the oil in the crankcase, eliminating oil leakage at the crankcase connector.
To adjust chain tension:
ed";
turning the driven pulley disk counterclockwise until it stops
tighten the chain, turn the disk clockwise - relax. The difference between the indicated chain positions should be 1...5 mm (see Fig. 20);
By rotating the eccentric axis of the tension sprocket, set the required chain deflection. Fix the found position of the axis with a bolt.
The chain tension can be checked by the play of the variator driven pulley. Shift into forward gear. Measured by outer diameter
The backlash of the driven pulley should be 20...40 mm.
To wash the reverse box, do the following:
start the engine and, with reverse switching, run the snowmobile for 10...15 minutes;
1…7 mm
Rice. 20 — Adjusting the tension of the reverse box chain
Check the oil level in the reverse box using a special
probe through the inspection window. When checking, the bend of the probe should touch the lower edge of the inspection window. In this case, the oil level should be between the dipstick control marks.
