Triumph Bonneville 2022. Details about the seven updated models

Triumph Bonneville 2021

Just imagine: not one, not two, but seven updated 2022 models from Triumph will take their rightful place on showrooms alongside the Trident, Tiger 850 Sport, Speed Triple 1200 RS previously announced for this model year. Now seven models of the Bonneville family have become compatible with Euro 5 requirements, but not only that.

Triumph Bonneville 2022

Triumph's press release is filled with adjectives like "timeless, classic, authentic, legendary, retro" to describe the T120, T120 Black, T100, Street Twin, Speedmaster and Bobber. All have been updated for 2022 in terms of construction, performance, handling, design and finish. “But these are six models, where is the seventh?” you might think. The seventh is a limited edition Street Twin called the Gold Line, of which 1,000 units will be produced by May.

The Bonneville family includes motorcycles designed for riding on country roads. These models are equipped with a two-cylinder engine, indescribable British charm and excellent ergonomics, making them a pleasure to drive. But the design team is constantly working to improve these models, and the transition to Euro 5 was accompanied by another update to models whose history dates back to 1959 and the first Triumph Bonneville.

Advantages

The new Kawasaki Z800 turned out to be a balanced and exciting motorcycle.

  • The advantages include the balanced and high-quality assembly of the motorcycle, a powerful engine and a moderately streamlined shape, which classifies the model as “naked”, but also covers the bike with plastic.
  • ABS brakes and a rigid suspension that will allow you to confidently take turns.

The model is quite popular all over the world. This unit has a powerful engine that can reach high speeds. At the same time, it has a balanced suspension installed so that when driving on city roads, the driver can confidently hold the motorcycle. The Z800 is designed primarily for experienced drivers, as a beginner may not be able to handle the power.

For beginners, there is the Z800E model, whose technical characteristics are understated.

and disadvantages

With such a large gas tank, you will have to refuel quite often.

  • If you frequently drive on long highways at high speeds, gasoline will quickly run out. The motorcycle can be tuned at Kawasaki dealerships, however, this will cost a lot of money.
  • Another disadvantage is the injection engine of the motorcycle, since it is very demanding on the purity and quality of gasoline. Since there is no windshield on the steering wheel of the motorcycle, the driver experiences discomfort already at 140 km/h.

Triumph Bonneville T120 and T120 Black 2022

Triumph Bonneville T120 2021

For the new model year, the 1200cc and 900cc High Torque inline-twins have been updated to "exceed Euro 5 requirements" according to head of brand management Miles Perkins. It is the older of them that is installed in the Triumph Bonneville T120 and T120 Black models, and for the first time in the 5 years of existence of the returning model, it received evolutionary updates. The power figures for both models have not changed, but that's not the main thing for these motorcycles. A lightweight crankshaft, updated clutch shaft and balance shaft reduce inertia, improve throttle response and contribute to an overall weight reduction of 7kg.

Also helping to reduce the weight of the Triumph Bonneville T120 are lightweight aluminum rims on spoked wheels, 18-inch in front and 17-inch in the rear, and the 2022 models also received improved Brembo brakes and two front discs. For the first time, cruise control is easily adjusted with a single button on the left remote control, and two driving modes, Road and Rain, have been “improved.” Two pointer instruments received “new premium 3-dimensional branded scales.” The T120 will be available in two colors: Cordovan Red/Silver Ice and Cobalt Blue/Silver Ice.

The Triumph Bonneville T120 Black will feature blackened wheels and engine covers, while the color schemes will be... um... black. Actually, it's Jet Black, Matt Jet Black and Matt Graphite with silver trim.

There are 116 factory accessories available for the Triumph Bonneville T120, including heated grips (however, they were stock on the 2016 model).

Video

The Kawasaki Z800 is a city motorcycle, with the release of which Kawasaki celebrated the fortieth anniversary of the very day when the Kawasaki Z-series line of motorcycles first appeared. If you compare it with the previous 750 cc model, the Kawasaki Z750, which, by the way, gained great popularity and a deservedly good reputation, you will notice that the updated Kawasaki Z800 engine received more power, the chassis was completely redone, and overall this motorcycle became the embodiment of the most advanced technologies.

And the design of the Kawasaki Z800 has added aggressiveness, which, however, is skillfully diluted with lines characteristic of a city motorcycle. The design is based on a classic tubular steel frame of the spinal type. The chassis of the Kawasaki Z800 has been developed based on previous experience, and the result is an excellent balance between quality suspension and maximum riding comfort. The motorcycle frame is hidden behind a plastic body kit. The front fairing has an aggressive pointed shape, the sides are covered with other parts, the tail is aggressively raised, and at the bottom there is an additional spoiler for better aerodynamics. And for beauty, of course. Kawasaki Z800 The rear of the Kawasaki Z800 is also not quite ordinary in terms of style, because there is an original LED headlight in which the luminous elements are arranged in a Z-shape. The overall picture of the motorcycle’s appearance is complemented by spectacular turn signals with faceted glass, which is why they look very similar to elongated diamonds. The length of the motorcycle is 210 cm, the seat height is 83.4 cm, and the ground clearance is 15 cm. The Kawasaki Z800 weighs less than 230 kg. The volume of the fuel tank is not bad - as much as seventeen liters. As for the available color options, they are traditional for Kawasaki: black, green and white, as is the case with, for example, the Kawasaki ZR-7.

The Kawasaki Z800 engine is a completely new 4-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with a displacement of 806 cubic centimeters. For a city bike this is quite a lot, especially since the maximum power of the motorcycle is as much as 113 hp, and the torque reaches 83 Nm at at 8000 rpm. The engine intake system is 16 valves and Mikuni injection. The exhaust manifold has also been completely redesigned. All this technological beauty is complemented by a 6-speed gearbox, which is connected to the engine with a multi-plate clutch. The Kawasaki Z800 is chain driven and the rear sprocket has been enlarged, resulting in a slightly lower gear ratio. The role of the front suspension is played by a 41 mm upside-down fork with a stroke of 120 mm. The rear suspension is a modern Uni-Trak with a gas-filled shock absorber, the free travel of which is 137 mm, and a remote compensation reservoir. As an additional option, installation of an ABS system on the rear wheel of the Kawasaki Z800 is available. In general, the motorcycle’s suspension can be described as quite stiff, just like an angry city hooligan should have.

The motorcycle turned out to be very interesting - a real urban street fighter with an explosive character, excellent handling and grippy brakes. Experienced motorcyclists looking for a mid-sized bike in this class for mainly city riding should appreciate the Kawasaki Z800.

Triumph Bonneville T100 2022

Triumph Bonneville T100 2021

The key news about the 2022 Triumph Bonneville T100 is the 18% increase in peak power (to 64.1 hp) of the 900 cc inline-two, which is now Euro 5 compliant. In addition, the engine's peak power has been moved higher in the rev range - from 5900 rpm /min on the 2022 model up to 7400rpm. The maximum torque value remains the same, but its peak is also reached slightly higher - at 3750 rpm versus 3230 rpm.

The Triumph Bonneville T100 is a modern classic, simple, stylish, low and narrow, convenient as a training bike (and with the ability to install a restrictor for learner driving license categories). Lightweight engine components, along with a number of other improvements, have reduced weight by 4 kg, and the front suspension and braking system have been improved.

Additionally, the T100 also gets a new dashboard design. The model is available in three colors: Lucerne Blue / Fusion White, Jet Black and Carnival Red / Fusion White, and the factory catalog of accessories includes 117 items.

Motorcycle maintenance cost

If you calculate the total cost of maintaining this motorcycle, you must take into account that the price of servicing a Triumph Bonneville motorcycle also depends on transport tax, insurance, the cost of gasoline and other things.

The average car tax will be 1,500 rubles, insurance will be around 1,000 rubles. The cost of gasoline is calculated individually based on the travel mode. If you drive intensively, you may need to change the oil; for motorcycles, synthetics are used, 10W40 or 15W40. If you change it together with the oil filter, you will need 3.8 liters for replacement, without replacing the filter - 3.3 liters. The manufacturer recommends using Mobil 1 Racing 4T or Mobil Extra 4T.

Replacement of consumables: brake pads, chain and air filter is carried out depending on the condition and intensity of use of the motorcycle.

Triumph Bonneville Street Twin and Gold Line 2022

Triumph Bonneville Street Twin 2021

Since its introduction in 2015, the Triumph Bonneville Street Twin has sold 30,000 units, making it the best-selling modern Triumph classic. In 2021, the model will be available in two versions: the standard Street Twin and the special Gold Line version, produced in a series of 1,000 copies.

The latest version of the 900cc High Torque twin is Euro 5 compliant, retaining performance figures of 64.1PS at 7500rpm and 80Nm at 3800rpm in the standard version , but this model is also available with a restrictor for the training version. Here, like the T100, it is not installed from the factory: the manufacturer prefers to produce motorcycles without restrictions, and if necessary, the procedure for installing and removing the restrictor is carried out by a dealer mechanic.

As with any modern Triumph classic, style and comfort come first in the Triumph Bonneville Street Twin, so the 2022 model's new twin seat gets new, thicker padding, increasing its height by 5mm to 765mm. New alloy wheels, body panels and other body kit, as well as brushed aluminum headlight mounts and tank badges, distinguish the design of the new version from the previous 2022 version. The two driving modes, Road and Rain, remain the same, as do nice touches such as the LED rear light, switchable traction control and an under-seat USB socket. The model is available in 120 items from the factory accessories catalog, and color options include Cobalt Blue, Matt Ironstone and Jet Black.

Making the Triumph Bonneville Street Twin even more attractive is the special edition Gold Line, limited to 1,000 units in a unique Matt Sapphire Black colorway with hand-applied gold accents by one of Triumph's five leading artists.

Each copy will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Tire selection

The Japanese Kawasaki W800 is an even more English motorcycle in its essence than the truly English Triumph, which has modern technology wrapped in a retro shell. This can be seen in the wheel sizes: where the W800 has the old-style 19” in front and 18” in the rear, the T100 has an inch smaller, which narrows the choice of classic tires, but expands the choice of modern tires.

For Triumph, finding a front wheel may be difficult, and you should start your search from the front, and then select the rear for it, and it is not a fact that the front and rear will be the same model. Even at the factory for some time they installed Metzeler Lazertec forward and ME-2 backward. If you don’t bother with the design, you can find Michelin Pilot Active, Pirelli SportDemon, ContiRoadAttack2. If you want the appearance to correspond to the spirit of the turn of the 60-70s of the last century, then install Metzeler Lazertec or a standard installation - Pirelli Phantom. The front, like on the original BMW Funduro 650, and the rear from the “Goose-800” allow you to choose slightly off-road tires of the 50/50 class to externally turn the classic into a scrambler. But a real scrambler has a 19” front wheel for a reason – it has a much wider choice of designs.

To all of the above for Kawasaki, you can add chic Shinko E270 Super Classic wheels in sizes 4.00-19 forward and 4.50-18 rear, and you can find them either in regular black or with a wide white sidewall. In style and design it will be from the mid-50s of the twentieth century, but at the same time with modern grip properties. It looks pretentious and holds up with dignity. It will also be much easier with off-road tires - everyone makes these in standard sizes on enduro, and you can choose from asphalt-universal ones to really off-road ones with cubic blocks arranged in rows. There are many offers from Mitas, Continental, Kenda.

Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster 2022

Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster 2021

The 1200cc High Torque engine is, of course, tuned to Euro 5 compliance, retaining the famous 270-degree firing pattern as the rest of the Bonneville family. However, thanks to a deliberate increase in mid-range torque, peak thrust now occurs at lower revs, namely 3850 rpm. What's more, 90% of that thrust is available up to 5,750 rpm, so the engine doesn't run out of steam prematurely.

The Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster's high-quality front suspension, based on 47mm Showa cartridge forks, provides a more comfortable ride along with improvements to the driver and passenger seats. The driver's seat has received lumbar support, and the passenger seat has become 11mm thicker, and in addition, the double seat can easily be changed to a single one.

The single round instrument has a new dial, cruise control is standard, and all the high-quality features of the 2022 model are retained in the 2022 version: LED running lights, two riding modes, switchable traction control. The model is available in two new colors, Red Hopper and Fusion White/Sapphire Black, along with the already known Jet Black.

The Speedmaster's catalog of factory accessories includes 79 items, including a flat handlebar instead of a curved one.

Triumph Bonneville Bobber 2022

Triumph Bonneville Bobber 2021

The Triumph Bonneville Bobber is back, but its Bobber Black cousin is not. The popular modern classic not only received a Euro 5-compatible 1200 cc High Torque, but also became better thanks to an enlarged gas tank - from 9.1 to 12 liters, which is enough for at least 240 km.

Other significant changes to the Triumph Bonneville Bobber include a significantly smaller front wheel, from 19 to 16 inches, an enlarged Showa fork to 47mm, a new standard cruise control with one button control, a new dashboard design, LED headlight with daytime running lights, and black painting the engine, valve cover and sprocket housings. The model will be available in two new, Matt Storm Grey/Matt Ironside and Cordovan Red, and one old, Jett Black, colors.

The catalog of factory accessories for Bobber contains 77 items.

Important question

Triumph
If you think about motorcycles in a similar way and agree with the above, then you will surely pick one of these machines to suit your requirements. The only question is which one?

The youngest in the team is the Speedmaster. Footrests extended far forward; The wide, swept-back handlebar and split bench with a small passenger seat are the most important features of the British vision of a cruiser, which is undoubtedly the Speedmaster.

Thick, spherical levers and massive adjustable door handles are a bit reminiscent of Milwaukee cars, and the stylish optional waxed cotton bags add to the impression. On the 273kg Speedmaster you sit low at 700mm, which is the lowest of the three.

The wide, curved rear steering wheel, reminiscent of a wheelbarrow handle, is a manifestation of the cruise style. The tank holds 12 liters of fuel. The Speedmaster pegs are set 22cm further than the Bobber pegs and 36cm further than the black T120 pegs.

After a short search, your feet will find their place. Measuring from the reference point I took as the crankshaft pivot point, the footpegs are offset forward by 11 cm. For comparison, this is 10 cm in the Bobber and 25 cm in the T120. These centimeters affect your completely different driving positions!

I start the engine. If Speedmaster could talk, he would probably say that his motto is "Relax instead of spinning." Press – first gear is engaged. I feel that even from idling the big twin is suddenly rushing forward. Another press - second gear. Another third. And so on, until about 70 km/h, when I caught the “six”. Most often I drive between 2000 and 3000 rpm. I am accompanied by a pleasant, low rumble.

After adjusting for weight and fat tires (it is a cruiser after all), I have no reason to complain about the ride. The car takes turns willingly and handles them easily. Of course, to the best of your cruising capabilities. Component clearances are typically extremely tight on this type of bike, so when going fast through tight corners, that massive footrest comes into contact with the tarmac. To avoid overdoing it, I use the front brake to slow down the pace a little.

Accessories for Triumph Bonneville 2022

It's hard to imagine a modern Triumph without a catalog of factory accessories designed to decorate, enhance or protect the motorcycle. The Bonneville family is available with 320 factory options in the categories of protection, performance, comfort, style, luggage and safety. All come with a two-year warranty and are available in Triumph's online configurator.

But that is not all. Along with the Bonneville family and the previously introduced Trident, Tiger 850 Sport, Speed Triple 1200 RS models, three updated Triumph Scrambler models will soon be introduced. The 2022 Scrambler 1200 XC and XE are expected to be announced on April 13, with details on the Street Scrambler expected a week later on April 20, 2021.

Triple models

This largest family of bikes traces its lineage back to the first motorcycles with their debut in 1990 in Cologne. The Triumph Street Triple streetfighter differs from its counterparts in its spatial frame, consisting of an intricacy of light-alloy pipes. The gearbox has six steps.

The engine is equipped with a slip-reverse clutch. The motorcycle suspension is fully adjustable, the front suspension is inverted.

The Triumph Sprint ST sports touring motorcycle is equipped with a 1050 cc three-cylinder engine on a diagonal frame covered with a fairing. Another distinctive feature is the cantilever mounting of the drive wheel.

Touring enduro Triumph Tiger. The motorcycle has unified a series of many elements with the two above models. It has a similar new generation engine developing 115 hp, which is mounted on a diagonal aluminum alloy frame.

Both suspensions are fully adjustable. The equipment is equipped with additional options in the form of a choice of several sizes of saddles, luggage cases, heated steering grips, high glass and others.
