Polaris 550 Trail Touring Fuel Economy • ATV Selection

Transmission and suspension

Of course, if you try to jump or increase the travel on uneven surfaces, you are guaranteed to hit the “muzzle”, because the front travel of the telescopes is only 150 mm - still, you should not forget about the purely economic purpose of the model. The company has other models for adrenaline injection, and the Ski-Doo Skandic is an extremely versatile all-rounder, capable of driving both on the trail and in really deep snow. I believe that long trips will not be a big problem for Scandic, given the 45-liter gas tank.

Hanging system

The XLT uses an X-12 style front suspension with 10 inches of travel. It uses adjustable radius bars and AFX style shocks with a 5/8 torsion bar. The rear suspension uses XTRA 12 type suspension with 12.8 inches of travel. The XLT springs use an adjustable coil front torque arm and a torsion/coil rear torque arm with a spring diameter of 0.437 at 77 degrees.

The XLT Touring sled uses a 133.5-inch track with polyester-c construction and a lightning bolt style track pattern. The track has a pitch of 2.52 inches and a width of 15 inches. The track has a boss height of 0.82 inches.

ATV Polaris SPORTSMAN TOURING 550 EPS

So, finally, I will write about my new purchase - the Polaris SPORTSMAN TOURING 550 EPS ATV .

There are a lot of impressions. But everything is in order.

Sometimes, I have the thought in my head that in order to sell me something, I need to put a store along my regular route of movement. It was like that with BMW - every day I drove past Aldis, thinking about the BMW f10. Now it happened with Polaris. This store is located very close to Aldis. And I drove past it just as often.

But in fact, the main impetus for the decision to buy Polaris was the advice of a friend who owns a Polaris Sportsman Touring ATV, only of the previous generation. I liked this quad. Especially its padded back seat. A very comfortable ATV, both front and rear. This was one of the main selection criteria.

By the way, two Polaris together. The one that is closer is of the previous generation. The one a little further is my ATV. Both are blue. Both look great.

Main technical characteristics of Polaris SPORTSMAN TOURING 550 EPS:

Engine type: 4-stroke single-cylinder SOHC Displacement: 549 cm3 Fuel system: Electronic injector Cooling Liquid Transmission Automatic PVT H/L/N/R/P; shaft Drive system AWD/2WD Front suspension Double wishbone, 22.8 cm travel Rear suspension Double wishbone, springs, 26 cm travel Front/Rear brakes Hydraulic, disc, all-wheel Parking brake Parking gear, manual locking Front tires 26×8- 14; Maxxis® M9805 Rear Tires 26x10-14; Maxxis® M9805 Wheels Cast aluminum Wheelbase 144.8 cm Dry weight 348 kg Dimensions 219.7 cm x 120.9 cm x 147.9 cm Ground clearance 28.5 cm Seat height 90.8 cm Fuel tank capacity 19.9 L Front/rear load capacity 55 kg/110 kg Towing capacity 680.4 kg

This version, which was sold in the showroom, had a winch (though 2500lbs), front and rear bumpers, hand protection, and a front case. That was all that was needed. The main disadvantage of this model is the inability to install a rear trunk when using the rear seat. A normal trunk can only be installed instead of the rear seat. But for me this is not an option. The main advantage over other ATVs is that it is very soft and comfortable.

A 550cc engine is quite enough for me. Enough adrenaline. I don’t accelerate through forests and fields at more than 40-50 km/h, because it’s scary. There is a lot of traction. On the road it accelerates to 90 km/h. But this is not his element. The tires are not road tires. And you can’t drive on public roads.

I'll stick to stock tires for a bit. The tread is far from swampy. It’s not bad to drive through fields, sand... you can even drive on public roads. But in the swamps she passes faster than others. But this is not particularly important for me, since the main purpose of the purchase is to drive the Volga. Riding through swamps and other hard-to-reach places is just a bonus.

I've already punctured the tires once. It's quite easy to puncture rubber. I bought a rem. set. Now I can fix it myself. Already have experience

It was necessary to run in the first 25 hours in easy mode. Which is what I did. I rode through the forests, through local fields, without going into water or swamps at all.

Did the first maintenance. It cost a little less than 5,000 rubles.

Now I ride without restrictions.

A winch helps a lot. Already helped out several times. Once he sat on his belly in a harmless situation. Thanks to the stump that allowed the winch to catch on.

A couple of times I pulled out unlucky drivers with it on the road to the Volga. But I realized that it was better not to abuse the winch. The winches are also on fire. We must take care
