Harley-Davidson Fat Bob Test 2022. I knew it would be fat, but I didn't think it would be this much. Fat Bob doesn't look like an obese eyeball, but he does look like a brutal muscleman, very pissed off. A fat bob rolling on meaty rubbers, coated in Vivid Black, bubbling with aggression. Milwaukee stylists have done a little work and should accommodate even people who prefer cars with a completely different style. When I started the engine, evil grabbed me in its claws.
Speed, range, daily mileage and amount of fuel, shown by LCD display - looks cool
The rich rumble of the big fork brings a smile to his face. Comfortable sofa, well positioned in the backrests of the kiera, with a wonderful view of the mirrors. Pleasant switches are pleasing to the eye, placed on the clock tanks, which are also dominated by a large tachometer. Other information such as speed, range, daily mileage and fuel quantity is shown on the LCD display. Looks cool, but if you're wearing a helmet with a jaw, you'll have to bend your head to look at it. The motorcycle is running at low speed. The command center is located on the fuel tank. It is dominated by the tachometer. Speed, mileage, range and fuel level on the display.
Deep breathing
The engine sucks in air through an open air filter, which in case of rain is covered with a special mesh with the beauty of an old stocking and pulsates like a marine diesel engine. With one punch I drive in one that lands with a typical Harley punch. The following runs bounce slightly and smoothly. Driving around the city, I see that this technique attracts attention, and the devil, crouching behind your ear, tempts you to make a mistake: go ahead! step on the gas! slow down! click more behind the traffic police post!
Engine 1868 cc cm according to the passport produces 94 hp. and 155 Nm., but less was registered on the test bench - 91 hp. and 147 Nm
Fat Bob is a bully. Despite the 308kg weight, aggressive piggyback riding is incredible fun. At 114 inches 3 or 1868 cc. cm engine, according to the declaration, produces 94 hp. and 155 Nm., less was registered on the test bench - 91 hp. and 147 Nm, but the American twin has huge potential and it’s tempting to use it. Calmed by two balancing shafts rigidly mounted in the frame, the engine reaches just over 1,500 rpm. Below these revolutions it is sluggish, for which many of the rotating masses bear the blame. The range is much better between 2000 and 4000 rpm. Above 4000 rpm, the game is over: the V2 loses its breath and the positive vibrations turn into nervous tremors. Turning it higher puts you into the torque limiter action, which occurs just below 6000 rpm.
Between past and future
The new Fat Bob generally feels like a cocktail from the past and the future, shaken but not mixed. On the one hand, the classic as it is, on the other, an attempt to see the motorcycle of “tomorrow” and find a new brand design DNA, aimed at a younger audience. Just look at the oval, all-LED headlight in a blackened housing hugging the traverses! And this brazenly chopped off tail with a license plate bracket and a wing moved to the pendulum generally violates all American canons.
This, by the way, is also fashionable today in Europe and Japan, and go tell them that when it rains, a stream of water pours directly onto the pilot’s back! The front fender is also missing, but for comfortable movement in bad weather and over long distances, other models are made in Milwaukee, while the Fat Bob has been associated with other values - dynamics and brutality - for almost 40 years.
And with this there is complete order: the incredible thickness of the handlebar tube resembles the horns of a buffalo, forward-facing footpegs, a low saddle and widely spaced handles provide a regal posture with a straight back and a slightly forward body, and from the pulsations of the 1745 cc V-Twin Milwaukee-Eight my skin gets goosebumps. It’s scary to imagine how owners who paid extra for a large 1868 cc Milwaukee-Eight 114 will feel!
Energy Boost
Nowadays it is difficult to live without a smartphone. The USB connector next to the horn will allow you to charge it. Yes, I managed to get Fat Bob up to 180 km/h, but it's not an experience I'd want to repeat. The wind on your chest, the turbulence that blows off your helmet and the fact that you have to hold on to avoid being thrown off the bike - this discourages you from breaking records, but also from riding at speeds over 120 km/h.
The optimal speed is 90-100 km/h. I had a hard time accepting this until I went for a ride with my old friend Fatty. A free guy with a Taliban-like beard was pulling 70-80 km/h, and, irritated, I asked why he wasn’t going faster, he answered in a cheerful tone: “Because I don’t need to, I want to enjoy the ride!” “In general, why not...?” - I thought, - and adapted to my pace.
Then it turned out that Fat Bob has a different face. This is not only a city gangster, but a simple-minded guy like the Big Lebowski. Riding quietly at a lazy pace gave me great joy. The previous Fat Bob rolled off the strip as a twin-shock Dyna model. It's now part of the Softail line, which means its new frame aims to be stiff but has a center shock. Only that it is not hidden under the engine, but is fixed between the upper tube frame and the rocker arm. The new frame helped reduce weight. While the old Bob weighed 321 kg, the new one reached 308 kg with fuel under the plug.

Part 1. Prologue. Good day, dear colleagues! The 2019 season is coming to an end, so I decided to devote a certain number of cool autumn evenings to memories of past trips and, of course, share them with you. I’ll say right away that against the backdrop of the May trips of the last 2 years, the trip was quite ordinary, not counting my path to it. But first things first. My friends and I had been planning to rush to the Balkans, extending our vacation with the long May holidays, almost since the fall of 18. The company was well-knit, with Kirill we went to see Guns N' Roses in Danzig, visiting Latvia, Lithuania and the Curonian Spit along the way (I will definitely post a report about this trip), and with Roma we traveled around the Caucasus. So, as an experienced Balkanoid old cormorant (3 trips under my belt, including on a motorcycle), I had the chance to draw up a route and be a tour guide. There were no problems with this, there were more than enough points of interest in my head, so the trip promised to be eventful and interesting. The only problem with the route was that Kirill had only 13 days for the trip, and Roma needed to meet his wife somewhere at sea, celebrate her birthday and spend a week with her. Therefore, the route turned out to be quite tough, I wanted to show Kir the maximum amount of beauty, so with the approval of my friends, the first part of the trip was deliberately laid out in “smoke from the ass” mode.
Changes did not pass or did not come
Fat Bob now has a 43mm Showa upside-down fork that keeps him planted firmly on the road, gives a good feel for what's going on between the rubber and the asphalt, and stays composed under braking. The new single shock absorber performs much better than its predecessors. Among other things, because its pitch has increased from 55 to 113 mm. The back, however, is not as sensitive as the fork and has less suppression reserves. This is especially noticeable during harder turns. The back then shows slight nervousness. On the plus side, the new hinges need to be written that they had a positive effect on the clearance in the assembly. The footpegs begin to sculpt the asphalt much later, allowing the car to corner more freely.
The dynamics are also supported by good brakes. At the front, with two discs, although slightly blunt, it responds energetically and can get by decently. Support is provided by ABS, whose work is not ultra-precise. I would understand the reason for placing the ABS wheel in the wheel hub, whereby its small diameter allows for multiple pulses to be received per revolution of the wheel.
This also applies to the front wheel. The previous Fat Bob ran on 16/16 tires in 130/90 size. Currently the front slipper size is 150/80, which looks cool but has an impact on the ride, meaning the car requires a lot of momentum to enter a corner and tends to sit upright, requiring constant adjustments. It's a little tedious, but you can live with it.
The steering wheel and front footpegs are forced forward into a firing position, but you can safely stand there until the 13.2-liter tank is transported all the way. With a burn rate of around 5.2L/100km, the fat Bob can hit 250km for the next fill up. And when night falls, the LED spotlight hidden between the lagoons will well illuminate your way home.

True to tradition
There is so much torque that you can get underway in both second and third gear; The signature pulsations are felt, but there is no trace of itching even at high speeds. It’s a pity, of course, that you can only hear the engine with the throttles fully open, but this can be cured by replacing the standard exhaust with something more suitable for such a thug. The clutch lever has become softer, but still requires a strong man's hand, but the gearbox works like a watch - the shifts are clear, there is no slackness and no smell.
Handling compared to previous members of the Dyna family is simply excellent: the heaviness has gone into oblivion, and the chassis rigidity is now in perfect order - thanks to the thick fork pipes and the new swingarm. However, the wide tires do not contribute to the sharpness of reactions, and the low arches begin to wear off on the asphalt quite early, so compared to the Fat Bob bull, the competitors seem like agile antelopes.
There are also more brakes: either the mechanisms have taken such a step forward, or the general “thinness” of the design has had an effect, but there is no longer any need to talk about the need to put too much pressure on the levers. But short-travel suspensions, despite the fact that they have become more elastic, even speed bumps have difficulty working out. Although the motorcycle became somewhat more comfortable on a flat surface, a miracle, alas, did not happen, and therefore it is better not to accelerate on uneven surfaces.
The same applies to driving in the rain - the abundance of torque in combination with “oak” tires favors juicy slipping both during acceleration (up to third gear) and when exiting corners. Of course, if you have enough skills, you can enjoy such pirouettes endlessly, but for an untrained pilot, such antics, which are not typical for competing motorcycles, can be frightening, so it’s better not to relax.
Be that as it may, fans of the defunct Dyna family and the reborn Softail can rest easy - the new Fat Bob remains true to the brand’s ideology and retains everything we love Harley-Davidson for. At the same time, the motorcycle has become better, especially in terms of handling and dynamics, and as for the design... It will cause controversy for many years to come, but it will not leave anyone indifferent. As befits a real Fat Bob.

Blog named after NOEL636 → Meeting Harley Davidson in February at the HD representative office
Hello to all readers of this resource. I want to share the delight of what I saw and felt this winter. I would even say that there is so much delight that not sharing it would be blasphemy. For certain reasons, I couldn’t post this story earlier, but now I can. I can’t say that I tried a lot of things from motorcycles, as opposed to cars, but for me, a curious and technology-hungry person who also has winter motor toxicosis, this topic was extremely exciting. It's no joke, I had a chance to visit the Russian representative office of Harley-Davidson and try out four excellent Harleys of different models. If anyone is interested, come in.

Blog named after Harley_Hero → Harley-Davidson launches limited-edition personalization kits
The desire of owners to personalize their bike, to make it different from everyone else, allows manufacturers of motorcycles and accessories to earn decent money. In this aspect, HD owners can generally be considered a “gold mine” for the American company: equipment, accessories, tuning, souvenirs with the Harley-Davidson logo - products that are always in good demand. For those motorcycle owners who want to give their motorcycle maximum individuality, but do not want to go beyond the original Harley-Davidson catalog and turn to customizers, the company has prepared an interesting surprise - a limited edition of colors. Three new color schemes will help the owner stand out from the crowd - Grandstand Limited, Tagged Limited and La Jolla Limited.

Disclaimer The article, of course, was paid for, the author has a selfish interest, he sold himself for a huge amount of American money to the Freemasons, reptilians and personally to W. Harley and the Davidson brothers. Prologue I will probably someday learn to predict my feelings from a motorcycle from the first images of it and from its description. This is not the first time I expect one thing, but in fact I get something else, sometimes something completely different. Suffice it to recall the HD Street 750, the attitude towards which (according to its description and other “paper” characteristics) was, at best, dismissive. And then how the impressions from this small, nimble, and quite angry, by HD standards of course, motorcycle did not meet the expectations from the word - at all. So, this is not the first time that expectations have diverged from reality; as they say, constancy is a sign of class.
