Izh Jupiter is a popular Soviet motorcycle that is great for riding on almost any road surface . Among the obvious advantages of the model are compact dimensions, good maneuverability and relatively low fuel consumption.
If you pay attention to modern bikes of this type, then it’s also worth adding good speed and dynamics.
Appearance
When discussing the aesthetic appeal of the vehicle, it is worth noting that there is nothing particularly special about the Jupiter 5 model . Everything looks quite simple and strict. Nevertheless, for many such classics are the standard of beauty and style. There were no obvious changes here when compared with the 4th model. Notable innovations include only different cylinder fins and new flange mountings for the exhaust pipes.
Otherwise, the Jupiter motorcycle remains the same timeless classic.

Price
Today, a motorcycle of this model is not so difficult to find; in Soviet times it was bought in large quantities, so today you just need to find out how much the Izh Jupiter 5 costs. Of course, the price depends on the condition, because over such a long period many parts could become faulty.
Even during the release of the Izh Jupiter 5 , its price was quite high - 1,050 rubles. But this did not stop buyers; they wanted a comfortable and fast motorcycle, which was the best then. But still, compared to other motorcycles, this model had a relatively low price. For example, then new Ural motorcycles had a price of 1,870 rubles.
If you want to buy a legend of the USSR today, be prepared to pay 55,000 rubles for a new motorcycle. Yes, they are still being reliably produced. If this price is too high for you, buy a used model - its price ranges from 5 to 40 thousand rubles.

Modifications
The Izh Jupiter motorcycle came to the market in three modifications:
- standard. It came without a side trailer, at the same time, there were mounts for the stroller;
- tourist. The vehicle was equipped with a sidecar, as well as an additional spare tire with increased lugs. Marked as 5T;
- lux (5L). Without side trailer and attachments to it. On the other hand, there was a compact fairing, a pair of knee roll bars, and a towed rack.
Dimensions and weight of the model
When discussing the characteristics of Izh Jupiter 5, one cannot miss parameters related to size and weight. The most basic of them looked like this:
- ground clearance height - 13.5 cm;
- wheelbase – 145 cm;
- length – 217 cm;
- width – 81 cm;
- height – 117 cm.

If you are interested in how much Izh Jupiter 5 weighs, then its mass reached 160 kilograms. This was quite enough to make the vehicle both stable and maneuverable. In models with a side trailer, the weight was 255 kg.
The vehicle could withstand a load of 170 kg; in the case of a stroller, this parameter increased to 255 kg. Moreover, such indicators are not maximum, but recommended. Thus, the motorcycle could easily transport fairly heavy loads, without the risk of accelerated wear or breakdown.

How much do new IZh motorcycles cost?
The motorcycle sector in the Union was quite well established. Both in terms of production and consumption of goods. Even if citizens often bought motorcycles because they were unable to make a choice in favor of a car.
In Russia the situation is different. Sales of two-wheeled vehicles are extremely low, unlike the USA and Europe. And in 2008, the Izhevsk Motorcycle Plant was mothballed. In 2018, attempts were made to establish the assembly of new models, but they (the attempts) did not lead to anything. What if you try to find new motorbikes for sale, how much do they cost?
What did you find?
IZH Jupiter 5 can be found for 200 thousand rubles. at a popular bakkah market. The motorcycle is packed in a wooden box for safe and careful shipment to any region of Russia. By the way, there are offers with a cradle. The engine with a working volume of 0.35 liters is liquid cooled and accelerates the bikes to 125 km/h. Optional equipment may include front disc brakes, side guards to protect the legs, and a trunk. Thanks to the ground clearance of 135 mm, the vehicle can move on different types of surfaces, and the fork has an air spring to adjust the position.
IZH Planet-5 was produced since 1987. It was equipped with a 20-horsepower single-cylinder two-stroke engine, which provided a maximum speed of 120 km/h and fuel consumption of 5-6.5 l/100 km. Like the previous copy, this one is painted red and looks more impressive in person than in the picture. The price is also 0.2 million rubles, like Jupiter. The bike can be equipped with knee guards, a cradle or a trailer. Famous for its versatility and ease of repair.
IZ Jupiter-4 is a much rarer exhibit that can be found in good condition. Basically, you come across old, well-maintained cars that require significant investments. The color is most often sky blue. In general, technically, this motorcycle is the predecessor of newer models with the same name. Often the versions sold are equipped with a new liquid-cooled motor.
Izh 49, which was released in 1955, is valued at 225 thousand rubles. Equipped with a 350cc two-stroke engine. Judging by the advertisement, it is in OTS. New tires and battery installed. There are non-original parts, as well as attachments from later versions of motorcycles.
IZH K16 is a cross-country motorcycle produced for DOSAAF. The same 0.35-liter engine, but with an imported carburetor. Suspension travel at the front is 25 cm, at the rear – 1.25 cm (a hydropneumatic pressure regulation system is installed). The outer fork is not original, there are stickers on different parts, the color is blue. The cost of the equipment is 100 thousand rubles.
IZH Junker (110 thousand rubles) is also a rare model, especially in good condition. We managed to find an option for 85 thousand rubles. with low mileage. Year of manufacture 2005, color black, but there are traces of use.
Chopper's design almost copies Jupiters. Engine power 24 hp, maximum speed 120 km/h. Fuel consumption is 4.7-5 liters per 100 km. With a weight of 205 kg, you can move together with a passenger. Juncker's design is pleasant, made with an eye to the best American analogues.
Unfortunately, the plant no longer produces popular motorcycles, so it is simply impossible to buy them in a box. Negotiations are underway with the army and state corporations, but it is unlikely that the result will be the same IL.
Izh Jupiter 5: technical specifications
The model demonstrates quite good parameters. The main technical characteristics of the Izh Jupiter 5 motorcycle look like this:
- power unit power – 25 horsepower;
- engine volume – 347.6 cm3;
- ignition type – battery.
This vehicle used a two-cylinder two-stroke engine with built-in air-water cooling. The transitional model Izh Jupiter 5 could reach speeds of up to 125 kilometers per hour. In the case of the model with a sidecar, the dynamics and maximum acceleration were somewhat reduced, so that the motorbike could only reach 95 km/h. At the same time, this bike is not designed for track racing, so, in principle, nothing more is needed.
A completely new Jupiter, or the first results of the Juno scientific mission
Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system and perhaps the most majestic. A number of atmospheric phenomena on Jupiter - storms, lightning and auroras - are on a scale that is orders of magnitude larger than those on Earth. Bright streaks of clouds, carried by winds that can exceed 600 kilometers per hour, continually swirl through the planet's atmosphere. Jupiter releases significantly more energy than it receives from the Sun. Researchers suggest that Jupiter has a significant reserve of thermal energy, formed during the process of compression of matter during the formation of the planet.
The launch of Juno took place on August 5, 2011, followed by the entry of NASA's automatic interplanetary station into the polar orbit of the gas giant on July 5, 2016.
According to Scott Bolton, principal investigator for the Juno mission at the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, there is so much going on in Jupiter's atmosphere that scientists "had to take a step back and start reimagining a whole new Jupiter." they could have formed, how stable this structure is, and why Jupiter's North Pole is not like the South Pole. "We're asking questions like is this a dynamic system, are we just seeing one phase and over the next year we're going to watch it disappear, or is this a stable system and these storms are rotating around each other." Discoveries that challenge early assumptions were made using JunoCam. The resulting images show Jupiter's poles covered in clustered, swirling storms comparable in size to those on Earth.

This image shows the South Pole of Jupiter, captured by the Juno robotic interplanetary station from a distance of 52 thousand kilometers [32 thousand miles]. The oval elements are cyclones with a diameter of up to 1,000 kilometers [600 miles]. The image of majestic Jupiter was created by combining several images taken by JunoCam's three-color camera from different orbits to show all areas of the South Pole, with more saturated colors and a stereographic projection [a central projection that displays a two-dimensional sphere on a plane].
Before the start of the research mission, it was known that Jupiter has the strongest magnetic field in the solar system. Measurements of the gas giant's magnetosphere by Juno's magnetometer suggest that Jupiter's magnetic field is stronger than assumed by models and more irregular in shape. The magnetometer data indicates that magnetic induction near Jupiter's gas envelope exceeds theoretical model expectations of 7.766 Gauss—about 10 times higher than the strongest magnetic field on Earth.
“We can already see that Jupiter’s magnetic field is stronger in some places and weaker in others. This uneven distribution suggests that the magnetic field can be created by a dynamo closer to the surface [of the gas giant], above the layer of metallic hydrogen. Each flyby we perform brings us closer to determining how and where Jupiter's dynamo operates,” said Jack Connerney, the mission's deputy principal investigator and mission leader for Jupiter's magnetic field at Goddard Space Flight Center.
The Juno interplanetary station was also created to study the polar magnetosphere and the origin of powerful auroras at the North and South poles of Jupiter. The stability of the auroras is maintained by a large influx of electrons, accelerated due to the potential difference between the ionosphere and the magnetodisk. Penetrating deep into the atmosphere, they ionize and excite molecular hydrogen, causing ultraviolet radiation. Unlike those on Earth, which appear during periods of increased solar activity, Jupiter's auroras are constant, although their intensity decreases as the solar wind increases.

“On its next flyby on July 11, Juno will fly directly over one of the most iconic objects in the entire solar system, one that every schoolchild is familiar with: the Great Red Spot,” Bolton said.
Once every 53 days, Juno's trajectory passes directly over Jupiter's North Pole, where it begins a 2-hour transit during which NASA's eight science instruments collect data and capture iconic images of the gas giant. It can take a day and a half to download six megabytes of data collected during transit.
The Juno science team continues to analyze data from previous flights of the spacecraft. Scientists have discovered that Jupiter's magnetic fields are more complex than originally thought, and that the belts and zones that give the planet's clouds their distinctive outer features extend into its interior. Observations of energetic particles that create white-hot auroras suggest a complex system involving charged material rising from the volcanoes of Io, Jupiter's closest moon.
Fuel consumption Izh Jupiter 5
The Jupiter motorcycle demonstrates quite good performance in terms of fuel consumption.
The model with a side trailer required about 7.1 l/100 km, without it - 5.9 l.
In principle, for Soviet vehicles the figure is not that high, but now a motorcycle can no longer be called economical.
Features of tuning models
It is worth saying that the Jupiter 5 motorcycle lends itself perfectly to modernization, which is what domestic craftsmen use. If you want to improve the parameters of your two-wheeled horse, then, first of all, you should:
- replace ignition contacts on electronics;
- install a tachometer;
- add a leg on the side instead of mounting the power unit;
- install samples in the exhaust, which will help change the sound of the engine;
- add a couple of extra carburetors (it is worth noting that this will not only increase the power of the Izh Jupiter 5 motorcycle, but will also increase fuel consumption);
- update the turn signals and mirrors, remove the trunk. This will add additional attractiveness and charm to the model.

Interpretation of the year in the Jovian cycle
For some, this will be news that the Eastern and Zoroastrian calendars are based on the 12-year Jupiterian cycle. Just as in the eastern calendar, each year of a person’s life in Western astrology is symbolically associated with a sign, only not with the sign of the totem animal, but with the zodiac sign. Based on this, the tasks, difficulties and gifts of a person’s fate in a given year are easily discovered.
First year in the Jupiter cycle (Aries)
This year it is as if we are being born again. Often you have to start everything from scratch: develop new skills, master new professions, develop unknown talents and necessary character traits. This year presents an opportunity to change the direction of your development. Time for sowing. The sphere of the house in which Jupiter is located in your birth chart will tell you which area of life needs development and determine the nature of your initiative.
Second year in the Jupiter cycle (Taurus)
In the second year of Jupiter, the activities of the previous year begin to bear good fruit. This is also a wonderful period for finding a well-paid job that will ensure a comfortable future and advancement on the social and career ladder. Your well-being in the next 11 years depends on how much you invest in work this year and what income you receive. But if this year your savings began to slip through your fingers like water, this is an alarm bell. This means that you do not know how to handle finances effectively. Money should constantly be spinning, working, and not lying idle in a stocking.
Third year in the Jupiter cycle (Gemini)
You shouldn't expect any fateful changes from this year. Use this time to expand your horizons, network, and organize your thoughts. It's a good time to start learning. And, although there is a temptation to live the period exclusively in building mental models, mental activities and reflections, find the strength within yourself to implement Jupiterian initiatives. During this cycle, a person may discover new social prospects with those closest to him, or repeat old patterns of unsuccessful relationships.
Fourth year in the Jupiter cycle (Cancer)
Is the cardinal point of the cycle. If the previous three years of the cycle you could try yourself in different directions, experiment or simply make plans. Now it’s time to make a choice in which direction you will develop in the remaining years of the cycle. Decide on a goal, focus on it, and take action. Serious changes in life are inevitable.
Fifth year in the Jupiter cycle (Leo)
The fifth Jupiterian year promotes the advancement of goals approved earlier. Time for creativity, initiatives, bright solutions. Don't be shy to express yourself. Take risks, fight for the opportunity to take your place in the sun. This year, the dreams of the first years of the cycle can turn into reality. Be bolder to speed up the fulfillment of your desires.
Sixth year in the Jupiter cycle (Virgo)
It's time to reap the benefits of your social manifestations. If the fifth year did not bring results, you should adjust your relationships with work colleagues and, perhaps, change your behavior in society. This year a person improves by increasing his professional competence. Development will come from working subordinately, in secondary roles, and performing routine duties. Perhaps this year you will have to work more than usual, what can you do - these are the requirements of the sixth year.
Seventh year in the Jupiter cycle (Libra)
The seventh Jupiterian year is the period when outward efforts reach their culmination. What was sown in the first year and took root in the fourth must reach certain heights in the seventh year. During this period, there is an opportunity to consciously change your life based on the results of social activities. There may be an urgent need to leave any relationship or separate yourself from your activities. In a dead end situation, it is better to quit the race and try something else before it is too late.
Eighth year in the Jupiter cycle (Scorpio)
Everything that was realized in the seventh Jupiterian year must be consolidated in certain social conditions. It is during this period that the success or failure of the initiatives taken is revealed. In the year of Scorpio, it is important to take on only real problems; your mind should be sober and clear. Control your anger and aggression. There must be a re-evaluation of personal needs for social relationships and social recognition.
Ninth year in the Jupiter cycle (Sagittarius)
If things were going well before, everything will be even better now. New horizons will open up, there will be an opportunity to realize your talents and abilities, to show your best side. In the ninth Jupiterian year, a critical reaction to any social or national needs may appear. At the same time, an individual psychological reaction can lead a person to lose the ability to apply new effective techniques that appeared in the eighth Jupiterian year.
Tenth year in the Jupiter cycle (Capricorn)
Are you at the pinnacle of success? Don't be idle for too long. In the tenth year of Jupiter, you need to properly strengthen your position and prove that it is not in vain that you take your place in the sun. Perhaps during this period you will ask questions: “What is a career for me? What do I expect from her? Have I given my all to the cause?” If the answers to these questions make it clear that through your activities in society you have not sufficiently demonstrated your personality, it’s time to reconsider the situation. If you have nothing to brag about this year, don’t despair, otherwise you risk getting stuck in a dark streak for a long time.
Eleventh year in the Jupiter cycle (Aquarius)
This phase of the cycle is well suited for debugging the sphere of ideals according to the Jupiterian principle. Now you need to understand what friends, like-minded people and society want from you, as well as how well you meet their expectations. Be reasonable in your assessment. Perhaps there is a need to make a reshuffle in personnel, or change your place of work yourself. The time has come to implement brilliant projects that at first glance seemed like castles in the air. Society can either approve or condemn you. In any case, you will be rewarded for your deeds.
Twelfth year in the cycle of Jupiter (Pisces)
Now is not the time for active action. It's better to go into the shadows. You are in the final phase, which is a period of transformation.
The new cycle of Jupiter will not become positive for you if you do not now give up what prevents you from moving freely. You don’t want old problems to migrate into a new period, do you? Therefore, identify what took you away from your goal and get rid of unnecessary ballast.
As we can see, the Jupiter cycle helps to choose the most successful years for social advancement and realization in human society. The 12-year cycle is used to plot graphs of fate and will in numerology. But besides the Jupiter cycle, other planetary cycles also influence human life. I'll tell you all about this a little later.
A short summary
Looking at the photo of Izh Jupiter 5, you can feel nostalgic - after all, this is exactly the vehicle from childhood and adolescence that many of us drove along rural roads and small streets . At the same time, Izh Jupiter 6 is still alive today.
Perhaps the basic technical parameters here are not very high, but thanks to countless modifications and modernization, this Soviet motorcycle can compete on the road with more modern vehicles.
Video review of the Soviet motorcycle IZH Jupiter 5:
History of creation and manufacturer
In 1985, the first models of motorcycles Izh Jupiter 5 and Izh Jupiter - 5K were produced at the Izhmash plant. The designers who developed the model tried as much as possible to correct the shortcomings discovered during the operation of Jupiter. Basically, the whole problem was insufficient electrical equipment and the uneconomical nature of the device. Thus, Izh Jupiter - 5 became one of the most popular and best motorcycles in the USSR.
Motorcycle Izh Jupiter 5 is considered one of the most legendary
The model began to be actively produced from 1987 to 2008 in Izhevsk. Having a long resource, IZH Jupiter - 5 is well-assembled, belongs to the middle class and is excellent for various roads, even not asphalted.
The motorcycle has gained the greatest popularity among residents of rural areas due to the fact that it has high maneuverability and small dimensions, is economical and unpretentious in operation.
