IZH Planet 5 is a marketed Soviet-domestic motorcycle, produced from 1987 to 2008. Interpreted as a modernized version of the IZH Planet-4 motorcycle. The model under consideration has received a large number of modifications, among which the most basic configuration is the IZH-7.107. The “Lux” variation is designated by the index IZH-7.107L and is distinguished by the presence of additional equipment and accessories - fairing, knee guards and luggage compartment. - A dirty air filter impairs the performance of the air supplied to the engine. Naturally, this affects the parameters of the fuel mixture. Such a violation can significantly increase consumption and reduce power. Don't delay replacing the filter.
- A dirty oil filter similarly complicates the operation of the internal combustion engine.
- Insufficient tire pressure will require more fuel. The rolling gets worse. Check your tire pressure regularly.
- Warming up the engine before driving provides minor fuel savings.
- Low quality gasoline, we are talking not only about consumption, but also about additional harmful effects on individual engine components.
- Impaired wheel alignment and camber acts similarly to tires with insufficient pressure, and rolling resistance increases.
- Electric consumers influence fuel consumption. The air conditioner produces the highest consumption.
- Car load. Empty the trunk of “useful” and “necessary” things; at short intervals the difference will not be noticeable, but over the course of a year you will save a dozen or so liters.
- Keep the revs low according to the transmission capabilities
- Air resistance at high speeds; the higher the speed, the more the oncoming air masses hinder the movement of the car.

- Vladislav, Murom. I purchased this motorcycle in 1992. It cost me 13 thousand rubles. Completely original, without all Asian parts. I rode this two-wheeler a lot - to Krasnoyarsk, Elektrostaln, Achinsk, Abakan, and even visited the area of the notorious Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station. I often drove 500 kilometers at a time, and this was in 1994 - at that time, by the way, the roads were of worse quality. On some road sections, 150 kilometers long, there was not a single soul on the roads. And somewhere I had a chance to climb along a full-fledged pathlessness, which is intended for all-wheel drive vehicles with four-wheel drive. However, my little bike withstood all these tests, since it is light and difficult to bury in the mud. However, on the other hand, it was somehow scary, because in such a wilderness I have no one to rely on in the event of a major malfunction. Fortunately, Izh-Planet-5 did not disappoint at all. In the current period, its distance traveled is 47 thousand kilometers. I connected the sidecar trailer to it. I got comfortable behind the wheel dynamically - the lane control controls were, as they say, at hand. Over time, I installed an imported steering rack and chain disc brake. Compared to its predecessor, the fork is more elastic, with a multiplied angle of inclination. This especially increases convenience, comfort and safety during the trip. In addition, the motorcycle began to look more solid. There is a function of pumping air into the fork stays, thanks to which the elasticity of the fork can be adjusted based on your needs. The seating position is also comfortable, the seat is covered with quite durable leatherette, which is intact to this day - there is not a single hole on it. The driver and passenger fit on the motorcycle without difficulty. The steering wheel is durable, I also note its developed torsional elasticity, and the height of the steering wheel is adjusted to my height. In addition, the electrical supply in the motorcycle functions thoroughly, without unexpected failures. Electrics are not afraid of moisture, which is interpreted as a sign that Izh Planet 5 is adapted to domestic road and climatic conditions. At night, the headlight shines quite dimly, the road is difficult to see. The service is not at all complicated, but you need to adapt to the contact ignition system - it has to be reconfigured and adjusted. The carburetor fuel system is absolutely insensitive to clogging. The air filtration system cleans the air efficiently. The kinetics of the engine is excellent, it is possible to drive up to 100 km/h. Fuel consumption is around 4-6 liters per hundred kilometers. Unfortunately, it was not possible to accelerate to 120 km/h at all. The motorcycle digests both 80 and 92 gasoline remarkably well. The power unit is quite noisy, and vibrations from it are transferred to the steering column and frame layout. It is necessary to mix oil with gasoline, because of this, by the way, the exhaust turns blue. Unfortunately, because of this, the power unit is not able to meet even Euro-3 standards. On long trips, fatigue is dynamically felt due to all these vibrations. After a long ride, my whole body aches, especially my lower back. However, the motorcycle is worth the money spent.
- Anatoly, Ussuriysk. I am the owner of a motorcycle IZH Planet 5 manufactured in 1992. Nowadays, this miracle of technology is in demand only among village boys and spouses. IL Planet-5 is significantly different from a similar model - Jupiter. First of all, the main difference is in kinetics - the Planet tears and rushes at high speeds, while Jupiter does not like high speeds. At the same time, the Planet has a lower level of fuel consumption, better off-road qualities, lighter weight, as a result of which feedback on the steering wheel is more beneficial. Accordingly, the motorcycle does not break down so often. As for detailed identifiers, it is possible to find them on the internet, so I’ll tell you exclusively about the level of fuel consumption - in the city limits the Planet consumes a maximum of 6 liters, in the countryside it comes out to 3-4 liters, in light off-road conditions a two-wheeler fits into 7 liters In short, perhaps this is all. I don’t advise novice motorcyclists to get on imported cars, but it’s more profitable to start riding this Soviet motorcycle. After this, it will be much easier to master an imported car.
- Roman, Krasnodar Territory. I decided to write a review about the IZH Planet-5 motorcycle in honor of 30 years of its active use. This Soviet vehicle is still running, but currently it is stored in a garage, and I am blowing dust off it. I'll start right away with the disadvantages, the most important of which I feel is mediocre lighting. The headlight is normal, but all because of the meager maximum power of the generator (it has only 65 watts). The marker lights and the brake light also consume additional energy. All this lighting crap is installed not only on the motorcycle, but also on the trailer. That's why it takes so much energy. Halogen headlights are quite power hungry, so I came to the conclusion of replacing them with practical LED elements. As a result, energy consumption has decreased tenfold! Thanks to this, the generator had a reserve of energy, which was already enough for the main front headlight - it lit up brightly (I left the main headlight with my original one and replaced only the dimensions). I set the DC voltage to 13 volts; for this I had to rectify the alternating current with one diode from the generator. In addition, it was still necessary to smooth out the ripples; for this, an electrolytic capacitor of 500 uF was needed. In fact, the result was a direct current, which I passed through the stabilizer on KREN-8B. This is how the voltage turned out to be 12V, which does not change, regardless of low, medium or high engine speeds. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that it is more profitable to power exclusively diode dimensions with this stabilizer, because its maximum power is not enough for ordinary (original) light bulbs. I measured the voltage at the main headlight - it produces no more than 16 volts. I purchased LED lamps at an auto parts store, they cost me a budget. And the halogen light used to burn out often. Perhaps this was the main problem of the motorcycle, but otherwise it is wonderful - it accelerates dynamically and supports cheap 80-octane gasoline, but I fill it with 92-octane. Fuel consumption is 6 liters per hundred kilometers.
- Valery, Engels. I purchased an Izh Planeta-5 motorcycle in 2012 from the first owner (though I don’t know how much he is the first, whether this is true). The main thing is that I liked the condition. In any case, I didn’t have to change or install anything significant. Everything functions in a high-quality manner, the motorcycle is durable and easy to use for a long time, it is highly adapted to domestic road and natural conditions. The current model helps out in household matters, and at the same time is quite practical - the maximum level of fuel consumption does not exceed 2 liters per hundred kilometers. Among the significant disadvantages, I note the meager maximum battery power. The battery often ran out. To eliminate this shortcoming, I installed the ignition from the Voskhod motorcycle. In addition, I had to go through the entire wiring assembly in order to change the nominal voltage of 6 W and increase it to 10. As a result of all these “machinations”, I was satisfied with the motorcycle - currently it starts with half a kick, from now on there are no complaints about the battery. I recently purchased mounts for an electronic ignition coil. The motorcycle was manufactured in 1992 and cost me 11 thousand rubles.
- Oksana, Ufa region. This summer, my husband found an Izh Planet-5 motorcycle in decent condition at a used car market, and this rarely happens. Model produced in 1994, purchased for 14 thousand rubles. In the end, it must be said that this is a practical and unpretentious transport that requires minimal investment. The reason for purchasing such a vehicle is that every week we go to the village to visit our parents. It is more convenient to ride a motorcycle, especially in hot weather. It is more practical and mobile, and is suitable for off-roading. By the way, in rural areas you can fit in six liters. for a hundred kilometers. It is possible to ride on the worst roads, the chassis of the motorcycle will withstand even less troubles. My husband is also satisfied. He says that there are no difficulties in repairs, the main problem is where to get consumables and parts. Fortunately, parents have friends who work with similar equipment.
- Alexander, Svetlogorsk. IZH Planeta-5 is a motorcycle for any purpose, comfortable and passable, and turns dynamically. The kinetics are not very good - the two-stroke engine layout is to blame. In addition, because of this, you have to mix oil with gasoline, which significantly increases the toxicity of exhaust gases - based on this, there can be no talk of any “Euro 2, 3 or 4”. So much smoke rolls out of the exhaust pipe (especially if you press on the gas at the start) that in this smoke you can play hide and seek. And if it is significant, then there is the opportunity to note other shortcomings - in particular, this is excessive gasoline consumption in the region of 8 liters. The motorcycle was made in 1991, purchased in 2009. The current distance traveled is 13 thousand kilometers (when I purchased it, it was 7 thousand). I rode mainly on dirt roads, the power unit has a wonderful “pick up” at low speeds. On the Planet there is the opportunity to drive dynamically along a rural path, or along a highway. By the way, for the latter case (on the highway), it is more profitable to upgrade the wheels - install lower-profile tires. This will improve steering feedback and stability, and the motorcycle will stop skidding. For priming, it is more profitable to leave the original rubber. As a result, the Planet is a worthy motorcycle. It is able to compete with current Asian acceptable models. It has a high repairability, cheap consumables and parts. However, the level of fuel consumption is gigantic by current standards; here even the Chinese show themselves to be more profitable. There is a way to eliminate the disadvantage associated with gluttony - as an option, it is possible to purchase a Japanese carburetor for 350 cc. cm and two strokes, or it is possible to choose an Asian-made carburetor. Replacing the carburetor with another genuine one like K36 or K68 will not help - they have always been gluttonous. Of course, replacing a carburetor with a Japanese one requires a lot of money; this is quite half the cost of a motorcycle, without going into details. As for the ignition, fortunately, during the entire ride the ignition did not go wrong at all, and there was no need to adjust it again. Therefore, I see no point in replacing the original ignition with an electronic one. The original ignition must be set correctly, and at that time there will be no difficulties - to do this, you need to unscrew the spark plug, insert a screwdriver (it is advisable to make notches with a marker), instead of a screwdriver you can use a special feeler gauge, then turn the crankshaft using the 11th key (the main thing is , here you can’t reach TDC 3.3.5 mm), then set a gap of 0.3 mm on the breaker. Simply put, it is possible to simply rotate the crankshaft so that a gap with a diameter of 0.6 mm appears on the breaker. The easiest way to do the gap is with a car feeler gauge; this can be done by a service center at a low cost. The motorcycle accelerates to 100 km/h in 13 seconds, with a 20-teeth sprocket. The maximum speed is 120 km/h. The power unit produces strong vibrations. I also didn’t like the tight clutch - it’s so tight that after a few thousand km the cable could break. In contrast to the Jupiter (it has a semi-automatic), the Planet is equipped with a manual 4-speed gearbox. In the near future, I am thinking of installing a K62I carburetor - this is an Asian configuration, it is more practical and environmentally friendly. I always fill the gearbox with gear oil.
- Igor, St. Petersburg. This is not a motorcycle, but like a small tractor. It is impressive and durable, and rarely breaks down during periodic service (this is obvious for such equipment). This device has been with me all my adult life, I ride it with 6 liters. Indeed, at that time I was riding with my father, he taught me everything, including repairs. With Gmi, I have adapted to the Planet to such an extent that I seem to be reunited with it if I am sitting behind the wheel. It is dynamic and can maneuver dynamically in tight turns. It has a very long resource, because the engine does not have any turbo engine or other bells and whistles. It’s not for nothing that they say that in Soviet cities they built to last, so to speak. At first I rode on smooth roads, and then my father decided to turn to rough terrain. It’s more difficult to drive along rural roads – it’s bumpy, but it’s more or less comfortable. If used on the track, you need to upgrade to a 19 tooth sprocket. It is more profitable to ride on the highway without a stroller; without it, the degree of acceleration is more profitable and the maximum speed is higher. By the way, it is possible to drive up to 140 km/h. There is a possibility to go further, but it’s somehow scary, and I don’t intend to risk my life. As an option, there is also a sprocket with up to 16 teeth, together with it and with a converted stroller (into a platform), it is possible to remove even oak logs from the forest. As a result, Planet 5 turns into a mini-truck. The main thing is not to overheat the power unit and monitor the condition of the clutch. However, this applies mainly to heavy loads, because when there is no track, problems with the clutch and the running gear often occur. If you often drive off-road, then over time the front fork begins to knock dynamically. In the current case (to prevent this from happening), you need to monitor the level and condition of the oil. If you periodically use the Planet for forestry and other household chores related to the transportation of goods, I recommend taking with you the necessary consumables and parts - a capacitor, carbon brushes, a relay (relay), a clutch drum, five pieces of spark plugs, ignition cams. I guess that's all. It is also advisable to install a wheel with a herringbone tread on the rear; it will provide better cross-country ability and traction properties. It sometimes happens that you have to wrap a metal chain around the drive wheel in order to get out of the muddy ground. So you can also take the chain with you. The maximum level of fuel consumption (off-road) is 4-8 liters. If I drive along a grassy forest road, I often encounter stumps (they are not visible at all under the grass). It is better to place your feet on the power unit (in halves), otherwise your feet will crash into these stumps.
- Ilya, Ilyinogorsk. I have owned this motorcycle for several years; I bought it from a relative, who sold it as it was no longer needed. I can characterize Planet-5 as a solid, maintainable and unpretentious motorcycle, adapted to the difficult circumstances of active use. I will note the slight feedback on the steering wheel, to which I didn’t have to adapt much. All consumables and parts are acceptable and high-quality, but they are not always available for sale - you have to order, or look somewhere at a car dismantling station, from private traders, climb through advertisements, etc. I thoroughly studied the pedigree of this motorcycle, it is interpreted by the deep modernization of the Planet -4. In the fifth generation, many optimal features appeared, including a low level of fuel consumption, clear gear shifting (although the gearbox remained a 4-speed manual). The engine has a zero cylinder head, thanks to which the engine is cooled more efficiently. This, especially, had a beneficial effect on the thoroughness of the operation of the internal combustion engine in hot weather. In addition, the developers installed a fresh exhaust system with a more pleasant and bassy sound. The ignition switch is located on the instrument panel, which is very convenient. In general, all the means of controlling the alignment are so close at hand that you don’t have to reach for them (everything is at hand). The load capacity is also decent, as is the economy - even when transporting several bags of potatoes, it is possible to accelerate to a decent speed, and at the same time keep within 3.5-5 liters per hundred kilometers. The maximum speed is 120 km/h. Maximum engine power 22 hp. s., engine working size 345 cc. see. I fill up with 92nd gasoline.
