“The passions raging in the market for utilitarian ATVs in Russia will give a hundred points ahead to any cocaine wars in South America or the arms trade in the East African republics! It’s no joke, we are talking about tens of millions of dollars in profit and a Russian trade space that is very far from being saturated... So there is a serious struggle for the wallets of domestic buyers between the most serious domestic players.


Today, throughout the vast territory of our country “from the taiga to the British seas,” there are only four large companies that sell, produce or assemble utilitarian all-wheel drive ATVs. They can be divided into three conditional groups: “assemblers”, “sellers” and “factory workers”. The first category, which deals with unit, “screwdriver” assembly, includes equipment assembled from components of the Taiwanese company Standard Motor Corporation. This same group includes several small companies that assemble Chinese ATVs in very modest volumes. The second caste includes those engaged in the sale of Chinese equipment in Russia under the CF Moto brand. And several sellers modestly selling a few equipment from Taiwan and China. By the way, despite its exclusively trade specialization, it was AVM-Trade that last year seriously spoiled the nerves of competitors with the level of its sales! The third group includes companies that are trying to establish full-cycle production at their facilities and, distancing themselves from Asian suppliers, produce equipment that is localized as much as possible in Russia. Unfortunately, there are only two active participants in this category. The first is a technically well-equipped one in the city of Zhukovka, Bryansk region, and its quad equipment, produced under the Stels brand. The second one is, of course, the legendary one.

Until recently, the interests of the domestic snowmobile “bison” revolved exclusively around snow machines. But, as you know, in Russia one of the traditional problems does not lose relevance either in winter or in summer, and the lack of roads is our original reality. So the next logical step for Russian Mechanics was the release of 4-wheel all-wheel drive vehicles. We started traditionally with a “screwdriver” assembly of CF Moto “squares”. Later, the RM-Gamax AX600, developed jointly with the Taiwanese company Gamax Moto Corporation, and the “RM500 4x4”, equipped with a Taiwanese TGB engine, appeared. But the competitors did not stand still, and in order not to fall under the sales rink of their more savvy and successful colleagues, Russian Mechanics had to seriously expand the model range of utilitarian 4-wheeled vehicles. Today it is divided into two main groups: the “budget” “Lynx” line with a price ceiling of up to 185,000 rubles and the more “advanced” “RM” family with a cost in the range of 225–300 thousand rubles. At the autumn presentation of the new model line of Rybinsk ATVs, what I most remembered and liked was not the top-end ATVs of the “RM” family, but... the new budget ATV “Lynx 500”! Yes, yes, exactly the 500 cc puny “consumption”! And this is a completely unbiased reaction, I tell you. The fact is that there is too much competition in the premium segment, and the requirements of potential consumers for the performance characteristics, appearance and ergonomics of such equipment are very high - primarily against the backdrop of “branded” cars. But in the budget segment everything is much more honest and simpler. Several key indicators: reliability, price, availability of service and a powerful dealer network - all this can tip the consumer scale in one direction or another. And as market statistics show, the lion's share of sales is made up of those same inexpensive mid-sized “quad workers”. The manufacturer positions the Lynx 500 as a full-fledged utilitarian car for those buyers who are willing to give up additional options for the sake of affordability. The cost of the device is expected to remain at just 185,000 rubles. Where did such a very low price come from? First of all, thanks to the traditional design: the model has the most ordinary frame made of steel pipes, on which A-shaped arms of the front and rear independent suspensions are mounted. Front wheel travel is 170 mm, rear wheel travel is 195 mm. Ground clearance is 235 mm and dry weight is 360 kg. “Lynx 500” is equipped with a liquid-cooled carburetor engine with a cylinder displacement of 493 cm3 and a power of 36.8 liters. With.

The power plant was manufactured in China by a manufacturer whose name is still kept in the strictest confidence at Russian Mechanics. But, as the factory workers assured, the engine is reliable and at the same time repairable. An interesting feature is that the air intake and outlet breathers of the engine are located quite high, so there will be no problems with overcoming deep water obstacles. The transmission is automatic, there is a reduction gear and a front differential lock. A 17-liter fuel tank provides the ATV with a cruising range of 110 km. The hydraulic braking system operates on one transmission brake disc. As standard, the Lynx 500 is equipped with rear-view mirrors, a winch and 25-inch mud tires on stamped rims.

It seems to be a very banal set of performance characteristics and no outstanding speed and power indicators. But out of all the equipment presented at the test, it was the new Lynx 500 that turned out to be the most balanced and pleasant model. Despite its modest characteristics, the small engine very cheerfully accelerated the “kitty” both on smooth country roads and on real off-road conditions. Even a modest 32-horsepower “horse stock” was enough to go in any desired direction. Of course, the engine is rather weak, and the vehicle’s ground clearance could have been higher, but thanks to the well-designed, very “light” steering and good ergonomics of the driver’s seat, riding the new ATV is surprisingly pleasant. Coupled with the price and the seriously developed dealer network of Russian Mechanics, this makes the Lynx 500 a good offer on the market. However, I think the company from Rybinsk should not relax: its closest competitors, CF Moto CF500-A Basic and Stels ATV 500 GT, are very similar to the Lynx 500 in terms of characteristics, and the price is quite competitive. /


Description of the model “Lynx RM 150”

The Lynx RM 150 ATV of the domestic brand “Russian Mechanics” is in demand on tourist trips. The model is also suitable as a functional wheeled all-terrain vehicle. It was released in 2022 in Russia. The engine capacity is 150 cm³.

Thanks to a well-designed chassis and rubber with increased lug, the machine can easily overcome very difficult terrain. And thanks to the installed forced cooling system, engine overheating under increased loads is out of the question.
