The Russian Mechanics RM 500-2 4×4 ATV combines all the advantages of its predecessor and has many modifications and improvements. The design was changed taking into account the wishes and feedback of consumers, as a result of which the manufacturer managed to create reliable equipment that is suitable for use in harsh realities.

Among the preserved advantages, it is worth highlighting the presence of all-wheel drive and a locked front center differential, durable alloy wheels, an electric winch, rear-view mirrors, luggage platforms, as well as a towbar. In addition, the frame structure was optimized, a two-level comfortable seat was installed, sealed compartments were installed under the luggage platforms, and impact-resistant plastic was used in the body.

This ATV is capable of moving over various types of terrain. The model has improved ergonomics and reduced weight, which has a positive effect on ease of operation.   5. Sealed compartments under luggage racks. One of the compartments has a capacity of 9 liters, while the second has a volume of 16 liters. Their presence allows you to transport more cargo or use them to store any things and items needed during the trip.
  6. Injection molded plastic body components. This plastic is manufactured using modern technologies, which results in increased impact resistance and scratch resistance. In addition, such plastic, combined with changes in the frame structure, made it possible to lighten the model by 13 kilograms compared to its predecessor.
  7. Necessary lighting fixtures. As standard, the ATV is equipped with front and rear headlights with built-in turn indicators. This lighting equipment provides not only excellent visibility at night and in poor visibility conditions, but also safety when moving.

We recently took part in a test drive of the new and updated Lynx 500, RM 500-2, and RM 500 6x4 ATVs, as well as the pre-production RM 700-1 and RM 700-2, which, based on the test results and subsequent modifications, changed their name to RM 650-1 and РМ 650-2 respectively. The organizers laid out a special route around the city of Dmitrov, which included dirt and forest roads, sand pits and peat swamps, which, with the help of many days of rain, turned into a worthy obstacle course.

RM 500-2 is a restyling and modernization of the RM 500. The updated ATV has a two-section removable seat with a backrest, lensed headlights, a convenient electronic instrument panel, glove compartments, and the frame structure has been strengthened. The design of the steering knuckles and steering rods has changed, which has made steering more comfortable - we, journalists, complained about the difficulty of steering even after the first test of the RM 500 (even after the modernization, the cost of the RM 500-2 did not increase, but on the contrary, decreased - to 225,000 rubles. ). Moreover, representatives of Russian Mechanics reported that they are developing power steering for ATVs, but, of course, it is unlikely to appear on production models this year. The engine on this model is Taiwanese - with a volume of 493 cm3 and a power of 38 hp. With. and a torque of 51 Nm.

Thanks to the softly tuned suspension with a travel of 205 and 225 mm (front/rear), the arms and back do not break through either the bumps of a plowed field or on broken grader roads, where going at a speed of 80 km/h was not the limit. Forest clay puddles sometimes completely hid the wheels, but were overcome even without engaging the front differential lock. In peat bogs, of which there are plenty in this area, some colleagues still managed to immobilize the equipment by burying it up to the headlights in the mud. At such moments I wish I had a more powerful engine! But having freed ourselves with the help of a winch, we continued to look for the vulnerable spots of the ATVs.

RM 500, RM 500-2, RM 650 and RM 650-2 practically do not differ in appearance

Despite the rather harsh use, the RM 500-2 and Lynx 500 did not have many of these; more often, minor electrical failures occurred, which were corrected on the spot and recorded by plant mechanics for the purpose of subsequent refinement and not being included in the series. In general, the transmission, chassis and brakes of these models were without any tangible or visible changes!

"Lynx 500" is not the most passable, but a friendly and comfortable ATV

You change to the Lynx 500 and find yourself on a “stool”: it shakes a lot compared to the RM 500-2. Weighing 344 kg and with a 32 hp engine. With. You can accelerate to 60 km/h without difficulty. The rustic design is compensated by the price of 185,000 rubles! Light and dynamic, the Lynx 500 pleasantly pleases with its maneuverability. With the same wheelbase as the RM 500-2 (1490 mm), but lower ground clearance (235 mm versus 290 mm), the cross-country ability is not much worse. Transmission: CVT, with low gear and front differential lock. A 17-liter gas tank is enough for 110 km. A simple budget all-terrain vehicle without any frills, which is suitable for both rides and country needs! Another new product, like the two previous models, has already gone on sale - the six-wheeled all-terrain vehicle RM 500 6x4. This is, in fact, a serial PM 500 with an attached cargo platform with a volume of 500 liters, three folding sides and a load capacity of 500 kg. Thanks to the balanced center of gravity, the platform can be easily tilted by hand, and it takes about 10 minutes to unscrew the four bolts that rigidly attach it to the ATV frame. In terms of off-road qualities and maneuverability, a six-wheeler is naturally inferior to a regular 4x4, but it is still a specialized work machine. The price of the RM 500 6x4 is 300,000 rubles, but in the future it will be possible to buy a trailer separately.

The company plans to launch prototypes PM 650-1 and PM 650-2 (previously they were called PM 700-1 and PM 700-2) into series in June-July 2014. These ATVs, like the PM 500-2, are equipped as standard with alloy wheels with toothy mud tires DURO Power GRIP 26'', lensed headlights, front and rear luggage platforms (40/80 kg). Their braking system is with hydraulic hand and foot drive on the front wheels and a hydraulic foot drive on the transmission brake disc. Packed in original plastic from Russian Mechanics, the quads look modern and bright.

Single short-wheelbase (1310 mm) PM 650-1 with a high-torque Taiwanese engine (volume 622 cm3, power 42.5 hp, torque 54 Nm at the “lower” 4250 rpm), high-mounted air intake and large suspension travel ( front 205 mm/rear 225 mm) is declared as a sports car for fans of trophy and rally raids.

The PM 650-2 has a longer (1490 mm) wheelbase with the same ground clearance of 290 mm. The same carburetor (in this version, according to RM engineers, the engine is more efficient than with an injection) four-stroke single-cylinder engine as on the RM 650-1, allows you to reach speeds of up to 100 km/h.

  1. I purchased the Russian Mechanics RM 500-2 4x4 ATV a month ago. On the first day I drove more than 40 kilometers. During this short run, the equipment did not even raise any doubts about the reliability and quality of both assembly and components. The engine accelerates the car very quickly and pulls uphill without any problems. My configuration includes heated steering grips and gas trigger, but in my opinion they simply make the model more expensive, since at a temperature of -4 I didn’t notice much of a difference. My hands still got cold while driving. This is just the beginning, as I have identified many shortcomings. Another problem is the engine cutting off when changing gears, which does not happen very often, but still greatly interferes with a comfortable ride. The battery charge indicator lights up even when fully charged. The ATV is very noisy when operating. The controls are difficult compared to similar products. In principle, the model is not bad if you bring it to mind, but the price tag is clearly too high.
  2. I recently bought this ATV and I regret the purchase a little. Everything is spoiled only by the quality of parts and assembly. The hubs have caps made of plastic. So, on the first day I took them off in a puddle of ice. Now I’m thinking about removing the arch extensions myself, since when driving in a rut I can even break them. Plastic elements are very fragile and can crack from the slightest collision. In frosty weather, the entire body is held together when driving, which is sometimes annoying. But if you do not take all this into account, then I really liked the Russian Mechanics RM 500-2 4x4 ATV in terms of technical aspects. The suspension is quite soft and at the same time stable. The maneuverability of the vehicle is quite good, although sometimes it is difficult to steer. The cross-country ability, so to speak, is not very high, but acceptable, at least for some difficult areas. Acceleration is very satisfying, as is traction.
  3. I purchased the RM 500-2 4x4 model in Tyumen from an official dealer. After purchase, the ATV was successfully run-in, without identifying even minor damage. The center differential lock does its job perfectly. When this system is turned on, the front gearbox reliably and firmly blocks the wheels, which often helps off-road. By the way, the lock is activated using a separate button conveniently located on the steering wheel. All controls are also located quite conveniently and ergonomically. In my opinion, the Russian Mechanics RM 500-2 4x4 ATV is significantly superior to similar Chinese-made models, and I have been convinced of this many times. The company and I arranged a long drive around the area; among all the cars, there were mainly Chinese models. So, Russian mechanics showed itself very worthy here. The ATV does not bury itself and confidently takes the climbs.

Positive reviews about this device come from everywhere: from spacious pastures; from mountain settlements; from extreme sports tracks, as well as hiking trails. This list can be supplemented with military training grounds. It seems that Russian manufacturers have achieved what they set out to achieve - they have developed truly universal equipment. The coordinated work of all components, without exception, provides the equipment with excellent maneuverability, as well as excellent cross-country ability. The chassis was tested on rough terrain.

Among other things, this vehicle is equipped with a high-power electric winch and a towbar. The winch will come in handy when the ATV starts to slip in the mud, and you can attach a trailer to the towbar. The main thing is that these additional elements did not affect the cost of the model at all. It is sold at an affordable price. However, this cannot continue for long, so you should hurry up with the purchase of this model.
