Model of a 2-stroke motocross motorcycle Honda CR125R

begins its history in 1974, when this model was first introduced to the market. Modern modifications of the Honda CR 125 R were produced from the 90s of the last century until 2007. Since 1998, these motorcycles received an aluminum frame, which was improved and made lighter in subsequent years.

A special feature of the Honda CR125R motorcycle is a 1-cylinder, 2-stroke, liquid-cooled engine producing 41 hp. power and 27 Nm of torque. The model also had modern sports suspensions, in particular, an inverted Kayaba fork, which had a full range of adjustments.

The “older” model is the Honda CR250R.

The main competitors of the Honda CR 125 R in the class:

  • Suzuki RM 125
  • Yamaha YZ 125
  • Kawasaki KX 125

Brief history of the model

2019 Honda CRF250F Big Wheel.
CRF Performance Line technology such as fuel injection and twin-spar design are now added to the CRF Trail Line, propelling the 2019 CRF and '125 CRF125F Big Wheel into modern off-road motorcycles that maximize ride fun and enjoyment. Keihin's electronically controlled fuel injection system delivers smooth, smooth, linear power at any rpm and throttle setting - ideal for new riders and equally beneficial for experienced riders on technical trails or large elevation changes - and the model has 50 states off-road legal. The all-new twin-spar frame is crafted from steel and rigorously tested and engineered for a confidence-inspiring chassis, wrapped in new body panels and graphics that match those of the CRF model's racing siblings. Both CRF125F models retain the proven 124.9 cc. See SOHC engine and four-speed transmission for strong power and intuitive shifting feel. In terms of hardware, the two versions differ only in wheel size, swing arm length, and gearing, resulting in a 1.8-inch difference in seat height. Instructors or parents will appreciate the peace of mind that comes from setting the rider up with a reliable and nimble machine, and maintenance is made easy with fuel injection - there are no injectors to replace or clog with residual fuel if the bike sits for long periods of time. Electric start, low fuel indicator, ignition indicator and Honda's well-earned reputation for producing the highest quality, most reliable motorcycles on the track mean pride of ownership all week long and fun and thrills every weekend.

2019 Updates

  • An all-new electronically controlled Keihin fuel injection system replaces the carburetor. FI delivers linear and unwavering power for easier-to-control delivery at all points in the power band.
  • The twin-spar steel frame, a reinforced design inspired by the CRF Performance Line frame architecture, provides the right balance of rigidity and flex for trail bike comfort.
  • Increased suspension travel (10mm front, 12mm rear) for improved plushness and better bottoming resistance.
  • New 1 gallon steel fuel tank with integral fuel pump and fuel filter. The low fuel light on the steering wheel comes on when 2 gallons remain. The new frame design shields the tank in case of a fall.
  • All-new body design and graphics match the CRF Performance Line styling.
  • A new steering wheel-mounted multi-function switch includes the starter button, key-on indicator, fuel injection system status and low fuel level indicator. (Replaces the backup settings on the cockerel.)
  • The new ratcheting fuel cap reduces the likelihood of loosening while driving.
  • Half handles have a smaller circumference for a better fit on smaller hands.
  • The new seat foam is 5mm higher, but the standard seat height is only 2mm higher due to the seat being placed in the new frame. (Seat height on the Big Wheel version has not increased since 2018.)

Engine/Transmission

Honda CRF125F chassis

The steel frame has a rudimentary design, and the steering geometry (27 degrees steering column angle, 8 centimeters of trail) provides stability rather than cross-country agility. The 31mm fork has 13cm of travel, and the Pro-Link rear wishbone suspension has 14cm of travel. The suspensions are perfectly tuned to the speed and capabilities of the ideal rider - that is, a young, small, light and skittish beginner. These suspensions allow you to understand what off-roading is all about, for example, easily and pleasantly passing the “washboard” and a series of bumps - especially if you are not in a hurry.

Of course, it’s a long way from jumping right away, but the Honda CRF125F satisfies the simple beginner needs perfectly, and when flight calls for the rider, it’s time to change the motorcycle to something more serious, and the little CRF will find a new happy owner, and thus will serve as a starting point for many guys, a training desk and a ticket to life. Despite the seemingly cross-country index of the CRF-F, this is rather an average off-road motorcycle, but since in the understanding of small cross-country bikes it is usually cooler than enduro, Honda made a very right move here.

The two-piston front caliper on a 220-mm disc and the rear drum (how is that possible?!) brake work quite well and allow you to learn how to operate five controls with just four limbs.

Off-road motorcycles, by nature, spend more time on the ground than any other motorcycle. And wisely, when choosing a motorcycle, you need to take into account the possibility of lifting it if it suddenly lies down. 88 kilograms of curb weight is quite acceptable for a teenager who is already almost adult height, albeit weaker. But this is until the motorcycle lies on top of the teenager himself - not every girl will be able to get out from under it, so she will have to help periodically. There is nothing to say about the importance of equipment.

The plastic of the motorcycle, of course, suffers slightly from this, and the steel brake pedal and the box tab bend. However, all components, except the clutch lever, are quite durable, but the lever withstood just a couple of hits. And unfortunately, this is a serious disadvantage of a training motorcycle: without protection of the levers, this will happen constantly.

Classics

If you need to choose a 125cc motorcycle for the city or village , but you don’t know which one, look towards the classic “road bikes”. They are good at a little bit of everything, and most of them can handle both asphalt and dirt tracks. The choice in this category is very wide, from modern-looking models clad in plastic to extremely budget bikes for utilitarian purposes. Road motorcycles in this category are the most widely represented, and the most popular of them is the Yamaha YBR-125, assembled in factories in China, inexpensive, durable and phenomenally reliable. Although there are other worthy models in the 125 cc class, starting with the Honda CB 125 and ending with countless hordes of Chinese motorcycles from dozens of different brands.

Sportbikes

Sport goes hand in hand with power, and this is an indisputable fact. Therefore, 125 cc sportbikes seem to exist, but in reality most of them are ordinary small-capacity bikes, slightly stylized as racing equipment. They don’t have enough horsepower to qualify as full-fledged sports motorcycles, and not enough torque either, and this is true to one degree or another even for many entry-level Japanese bikes. The products of Italian brands, for example, Aprilia, stand somewhat apart. The Aprilia RS range includes small 2-stroke sportbikes that are truly fast and arguably the best in their class. The same RS125 is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 140 km/h! But the price for such impressive technical characteristics is the low resource of the forced engine.
