Exterior of Harley-Davidson Iron 883
Designed and slightly modified, which affected the appearance, the bike was made predatory and dynamic. This motorcycle was produced in several colors. This Harley-Davidson Iron 883 motorcycle, according to many, looks better in black. Its stocky and elongated appearance speaks of the perky manner of this bike. This Harley-Davidson Iron 883 bike perfectly combines style and build quality.
The teardrop-shaped gas tank, short fenders and custom engine are imbued with the spirit of retrofitting. The bike has an updated brake system that quickly responds to the rider's pressure, which greatly improves control on any road surface in any situation. The look of the motorcycle is harsh, painted in dark colors. The wheels are also dark, made of aluminum alloys.
Interior of Harley-Davidson Iron 883
This Harley-Davidson Iron 883 bike is made quite charismatically. Sitting on it, you feel like the hero of a Hollywood movie. The motorcycle is conducive to aggressive advancement - 883 cc. an air-cooled engine that accelerates quite quickly from very low revs, a landing position that promotes predatory viewing of any clearance between cars in dense city driving.
Of course, this Harley-Davidson Iron 883 bike is a classic US motorcycle, slightly modified. There simply won’t be a person who will simply walk past this bike and not look at it with admiration. Compact, light weight, quite comfortable in everything. The safety of the motorcycle is ensured thanks to the anti-lock structure. In addition, the bike has updated ergonomic and comfortable control devices.
Harley-Davidson Iron 883 is dynamic and maneuverable, the frame is reinforced with a double frame with thin pipes, it is made in a classic style.
Technical features
As you can easily guess from the name of the model, the engine of the device has a displacement of 883 cm3. Of course, V-twin, what doubt can there be? This is HD!
The 5-speed gearbox has some features. Many owners note that gears shift with a knock. But this cannot be clearly attributed to shortcomings - many Americans joke, and for HD it has even become a kind of feature. And in general, against the background of the roar of the engine, all other sounds simply fade away.
The motorcycle is standardly equipped with a pretty good braking system. Both wheels have double disc brakes, and if the pilot hones his control skills, he will be able to stop the bike in a matter of moments. You can use one of the brakes, rather than a pair, but this is very difficult. The weight of the motorcycle is insufficient for this maneuver; it will skid. The manufacturer provides the buyer with the opportunity to install an ABS system upon purchase, of course, for an additional fee.
The suspension remained firm but reliable. Owners note that at first it may seem uncomfortable, but you can get used to it. If you are thinking about purchasing this bike, please note that it has very low ground clearance. Cornering may damage the pipes or the running board. And such a feature may not be convenient for every area.
Engine Harley-Davidson Iron 883
The maximum speed of the bike is 170 km/h, but at this speed the rider is simply blown away. The engine is 4-stroke, 2-cylinder, V-shaped, the power of which is 52 “horses” at 5750 rpm. Peak torque – 70 N/m at 3750 rpm. 6-speed manual gearbox. This Harley-Davidson Iron 883 was not designed for long rides at high speed - it is designed for sharp turns, narrow city streets and aggressive driving.
And in this case, it is gorgeous - the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 picks up speed quite quickly and vigorously, leaving many motorcycles behind. But until it reaches 100 km/h, then its fast energy disappears. The bike's six-speed gearbox works well, but is quite rough; a knock is heard when shifting, but this is usually for US motorcycles. This is not noticeable in terms of practicality, and the noise of the engine and gearbox is a feature of the vehicle design.
The braking system is quite effective - there are 2 discs, 1 per wheel, they stop the bike quite well only when you use both brakes, rear and front. For quick braking with the front brake only, the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 is quite heavy, despite the fact that this model is one of the lightest in the Harley line, except for the Sportster brand. When purchasing a bike, it is possible to purchase for an additional fee. ABS structure board.
There have been some changes to the suspension, taken from the Sportster and refined a bit, but it's still stiff and practical. With these suspensions you don’t feel “floating” on the highway during sharp maneuvers. But, the small wheelbase and low weight, not very wide rear wheel mean that you feel the side wind to the fullest while moving on the Harley-Davidson Iron 883, especially when driving along the highway through open areas and fields.
But it is not advisable to ride a motorcycle on long roads, since it is not so comfortable, and it has 13 hp. the fuel tank is only enough for 200-250 km of travel without refueling the bike, this is if you don’t “gas” it too much when moving.
If you think about it, this bike is still the same Sportster, just slightly redesigned. In principle, the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 is very powerful and comfortable - a natural bully in city traffic.
The front suspension is a telescopic fork. The rear suspension is pendulum with 2 shock absorbers.
The front brake system is hydraulic disc with double piston caliper. The rear brake system is hydraulic disc with double piston caliper.
The type of intake is injection, the cooling structure is air. Power plant startup structure – el. starter.
Hi all! For me, this is the first post on the resource, just like the last season on a serious moto. I won’t write how I came to the moto topic, passed my license and so on... For everyone, everything is approximately the same. I’ll tell you about my first moto and how I felt from using it throughout the season.
So: Harley Davidson XL883 Iron. 2013 i.e. new, yes from the showroom.
Before him, I rode for a season on the fiercest Yamaha Vino scooter and at school on a Yamaha XS moto, about 150 cc. And then, it means, I paid for a new waste of money, I walk up to it (as if I have 150 seasons behind me) and understand that it’s boring. You have to drive through the whole city, it’s going to rain, it’s cold (I bought it at the end of September), but it growls, it’s heavy and it’s generally not clear what to do, and at the same time I’m wearing a Vespa helmet to everyone. In general, the picture is so-so.
I took a couple of laps at the dealer center. I realized that I shouldn’t touch the gas yet (I’m getting ahead of myself, it’s not moving, of course, but the first feeling is that it’s moving fiercely because the moment from XX, like a steam locomotive) and hobbled across the rails to Kondratievsky. I became insolent (a little!) after 3 km and ran between the rows. Carefully, as taught, the gas is slightly open, the clutch is in gray, the right foot on the brake steers the traction. Normal. It goes smoothly and doesn’t want to fall over. On Kosygin, he unscrewed it to the cutoff... And without releasing the gas, he squeezed the second one and.... I almost fell back... I held on tightly.
I got home without incident. Was glad. Washed with Guinness!
Actually, the next trip was a garage because... winter from kaming. Cold and alarming. I don't remember anything else.
The winter was devoted to studying driving videos, tuning sites, reviews, reviews, etc. It was mentally decided that there was no point in tuning this model of motorcycle equipment, because There is, for example, a 48 that in stock drives like Iron in tuning.
Among the extras, I bought a King Cobra saddle (in order to turn the solo into a kind of double seat), passenger footrests, an RSD zero (purely for aesthetic reasons!) and forwards (it’s Harley, dude)…
Spring came. I put the saddle on and went to register. However, with the saddle everything turned out to be not as simple as it was in the picture. In general, this vehicle had no support for the passenger at all and smoothly flowed into the passenger seat. And it was precisely in this place (remember about the forwards) that I found myself at the slightest unscrewing. Because my experience was “rich”, I did not immediately understand “what it was” and was even upset that I was not compatible with motor vehicles at all due to some unknown physiological reasons. However, I pulled myself together, thought it over, and looking again at this leather vest coated with vinyl (for greater beauty), I put it up for sale with a full description of its “advantages.” Bought! I was left with the stock solo saddle and passenger footpegs. The companions moved on the wing. This added spice to the trip, but I suggested watching the final scene from the movie “Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man” with the words “that’s the best way to ride a Harley.”
Well, okay, these are lyrics. Let's move on to the extraordinary (as many believe) qualities of this motorcycle.
The first 500 km. I went to the vegetable store. First season and 250 kg. weights together leave an imprint on the psyche. But this soon passed, and I began to unscrew and put it up to the footrests. And just at that moment, when the mileage exceeded 1000, I realized that the Nissan GTR left too quickly... And it’s not very good to drive more than 140, so that’s what works. And even if it works out, you don’t want to, because... there is awareness of the problem of deceleration (in America it seems they haven’t heard of Brembo...). The transport is set up only by counter-steering, and to carry your 70 kg. on this 250-kilogram piece of iron - it’s somehow hopeless. Those. in combination with counter-steering - it’s possible, but without it you can squirm in the seat while continuing to move in a straight line.
Nevertheless, every day on horseback brought joy. Yes, often the rear wheel skidded when the minibus rushed through 3 lanes, but I was scared and I pressed on the pedal. Then I practiced the skid on the court and it became part of the drive.
Yes, the motorcycle brothers went to the point on sports. But it was a real iron man! He was really cool and brilliant.
And it was internally pleasant to own it. The upside-down mirrors showed elbows and a bit of the road. But I got used to it and began to tuck my elbows while examining the situation from behind. There was only one problem that bothered me. To look in the mirror UNDER the steering wheel you have to stop looking at the road altogether. Those. in the process of studying the situation behind the rear wheel, the situation in front of the front wheel may change in an indefinite manner without the pilot’s knowledge at all. However, a lot of car experience told me - keep your distance. And also, auto experience told me - there should always be a plan B. And these two rules helped me when I looked forward again. Help was needed only a couple of times, but still, as we know, usually one is enough.
However, the sound of the first one turning on (by the way, there is no neutral on the HD. That is, it is there, but it’s not there. Like with a gopher, only the other way around) made the box makers shudder. First, second, 100... despite the fact that the pits seemed to be telling me “get off.” The pits, as it turned out, know nothing about the speed on the speedometer. They simply said, “Get off.” It would be logical to assume that the engineers would have known about speed. Apparently this was the case when they designed the suspensions, but it seemed to me that they did not know about the potholes... The fork folded even at a speed of 20 km/h on the most harmless policeman, and the rear shocks in beautiful chrome cups catapulted me out of the saddle. And everything would be fine, but I have forwards... That is. even when I saw the danger I could not get up. At that moment, I was internally gathering myself and relaxing at the same time (much like on a snowboard, when you are riding along a virgin field and suddenly you realize that there is a drop ahead and you need to wet it... I don’t think this comparison is as useful as it seemed to me at first, but it is poetic I'll leave it.).
Despite all this, during the season I never fell once, despite the news of the technical failure of this vehicle and at the same time the stylistic/charmic/aesthetic triumph of every detail and craft as a whole. Electrics stand apart. And in general... Americans and electricians are different guys. For example, after a warm winter and periodic charging, the original battery could start the motor exactly once! The dealer, of course, didn’t want to, but exchanged it for a new one under warranty. So, an electrician should also be classified as a technical part, which is quite logical. And yet, when I sat on it, I felt... no, not a legend, I felt a motorcycle with soul. This is true. Yes, this is a technical failure for century No. 21, but this is not a Chinese fake, where there may be a technical triumph (as far as it is possible there) but a failure in the sensations of the technology.
In conclusion, this is an excellent motorcycle with a somewhat inflated cost and weight, and somewhat underestimated technical characteristics. It is good for both beginners and experienced riders who don’t need a liter and don’t care much about the rebound damping characteristics. It's for the soul. Something like this.
For those who haven’t experienced it, a brief summary: (-) doesn’t drive, doesn’t steer, doesn’t brake, blows if it’s more than 120 if it’s more than 140, the maximum speed of 160 blows away (but without a rider) eats gasoline (I haven’t measured how much) doesn’t eat oil (it should eat, it’s same HD)
(+) beautiful stylish iron reliable
Unfortunately there are few photos of him. But there is a video! ) More precisely, he took part in the filming of the video. And to be even more precise, from 1.20 to 1.44 Ryder is me.
It was fun to drive around the centers in a fake cop uniform - the boxes parted on their own)) People climbed out of hatches and windows to take pictures of our valiant police on HD at the height of sanctions)))
Everyone survive the winter! I’ll make a full-scale clip (I have the material - I’ll post it!
In the meantime, Monster 796 took pride of place in the rehearsal garage...
