However, due to the desire to save money, future owners are increasingly abandoning high-profile brands such as Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki in favor of domestic assembly. And there is nothing reprehensible in this: in recent years, Russian ATVs have “grown” significantly in terms of their competitive position. It's time to take a quick look at the most popular models to see if they're really a good choice.

We only recently learned that equipment assembled or produced in China can be reliable. Just a dozen years ago, the Chinese auto industry seemed like a joke, but as the economy of the Celestial Empire rapidly developed, the world became convinced of the opposite. An alternative and direct competitor to Russian production for the 800H model is the creation of the Baltmotors BMX brand, which is assembled in Kaliningrad (Russia, after all). Although this “quad” is already considered European. Engine power is increased to 49 hp, but the volume is slightly smaller - 675 cubic meters. In appearance, Baltmotors ATVs are just as aggressive, have a narrower seat and do not have a spacious trunk at all. So they are classified as sports.

Russian Mechanics - a miracle of the domestic automobile industry


When, back in 1971, the designers of the Russian Mechanics enterprise (which at that time looked like a gathering of enthusiasts) assembled and presented the first domestic all-terrain vehicle “Taiga” according to government orders, it was something akin to the construction of a rocket in the 50s. After some time, “Taiga” and its successor “Buran” became almost the most popular all-terrain vehicle in Russia, and especially in tundra conditions. To this day, Russian Mechanics ATVs are successfully assembled and sold even abroad.

The most popular models of this brand, in addition to the two listed above, are also TAYGA and TIKSY 250, ATVs under the brand RM-GAMAX AX 600, LYNX and RM-500.

As for the RM-GAMAX AX600 ATV, it is a joint brainchild of Taiwan and Russia, so to speak, an international production. But other models are “family”, for example, the RM-500 is generally young, it was assembled only five years ago. I received a 500 cc engine and... did not perform very well in operation, as it constantly broke down. But the engineers were not at a loss; they finalized the model, improving the design at the same time. As a result, in 2014, the PM-500 2 model was presented, which earned the reputation of one of the best “middle peasants” in terms of cubic capacity. Several renovations and differences from the first vehicle RM-500:

  • The configuration of the steering and steering rods has been changed, which has significantly simplified the control of the all-terrain vehicle. But they haven’t reached the amplifier yet;
  • Engine made in Taiwan 38 hp;
  • Tightly closing glove compartments;
  • Water bottle holder at the driver's feet;
  • The 26`Duro Power Grip tires remain the same, as do the winch and starter.

What models of Canadian ATVs exist?

You can buy ATVs at a reasonable price, only 225,000 rubles on average. Playing for an increase, the creators decided to also release the PM-700 line, which is considered the flagship and is divided into single-seat PM700-1 and double-seat PM700-2, respectively. Already judging by the design (and during operation - by the technical characteristics), these ATVs declare themselves as sports and are focused on participation in racing, rallies and afterburners. Again, they are assembled on the basis of an engine made in Taiwan, and in the PM700-1 model the engine is equipped with a carburetor.

The most budget model from the RM line is 500-2.
A two-level seat and improved foot rests allow both the passenger and the driver to feel comfortable on the toughest off-road conditions. If “Lynx” is more of a tourist option, then “RM” can easily withstand heavy loads. It will be an excellent solution for a farmer or those who like to hunt or fish in difficult places.

Compared to the classic 500, the deuce has become 13 kg lighter and has become more maneuverable due to an improved steering column angle and bearings.

Equipping with convenient drawers of 16 and 9 liters will allow you to take everything you need with you on the road. 493 cubes and a 4 by 2 and 4 by 4 wheel arrangement allows you to develop high speeds where a car cannot crawl even at 10 km/h.

The classic model “RM 500 4x4” has 26 inches of alloy wheels, 40.8 horses, front-wheel drive. It will be convenient for both off-road driving and hiking.

The 4x6 cargo version “RM 500” allows you to carry a load of up to 400 kg. A reinforced frame, 6 wheels, four of which are driving, and a dismantled luggage platform allow this model to be used both as a cargo and passenger vehicle.

The loading platform is designed in an interesting way - like a dump truck . It can hold up to 500 liters and unload the contents at the desired location by tipping.

Models “RM 650” and “RM 650-2” can be used both as workhorses and as transport for trophy marathons. They are the most expensive of the line, but also the most durable.

Torque up to 4250 rpm will allow you to overcome any obstacles. The 42.5 horsepower engine and noise level reduced to 2 decibels allow you to participate in competitions.

And the ability to move at a speed of 1-2 kilometers per hour allows you to move freely through swampy areas or carefully transport large loads.

"RM 650-2" has the same four-stroke engine, but is equipped with a second seat for the passenger. Partial improvement of the steering made the model more comfortable to drive.

This all-terrain vehicle is also suitable for driving through swamps, snow or sticky mud. Passengers and cargo can be delivered to places where even a more sophisticated all-terrain vehicle would get stuck.

ATVs RM-500 series

The “Russian Mechanics 500” series of ATVs is built on the basis of a four-wheel chassis, with all drive wheels (4X4 formula). The transmission is mechanical, continuously variable with variator. To increase cross-country ability, the transmission is equipped with an electric differential lock, which is very comfortable for the driver. ATVs have two seats, including a driver's seat.

Technical parameters of RM-500:

The 500th series is also represented by the Russian Mechanics 502 ATV model. The main difference between the PM-500 and PM-502 models is the power units. The PM-500 model has a 503 cm3 gasoline engine. and a power of 40.8 hp, and the RM-502 model has an engine capacity of 493 cm3. and a power of 38 hp. These power units accelerate the ATVs to 80 and 85 km/h, respectively. Fuel consumption directly depends on the complexity of the route and driving style and is approximately 10-15 liters.

Utilitarian and inexpensive ATVs of the PM-650 series

This series is represented by two models, one of which, RM-650 (6x4), is a cargo vehicle. The chassis has a base extended by 12 cm, and has a 4x4 wheel arrangement for the passenger model, and 6x4 for the cargo model. The transmission in both models is mechanical, continuously variable with CVT.

As in all Russian Mechanics ATVs, the transmission is equipped with an electric differential lock, providing high cross-country ability and ease of use.

Popular snow and swamp-going vehicles of the RM-800 and RM-800 UTV series.

ATVs-snow and swamp-going vehicles of the PM-800 and PM-800 UTV series are a logical continuation of the previous series and have improved characteristics. The series is equipped with more powerful power units. These are gasoline four-stroke engines with a volume of 800 cm3. and already 60 hp. More powerful engines significantly expand the capabilities of technology. The chassis has a 4x4 formula, and the transmission, traditionally, is mechanical, continuously variable with a variator. As in all Russian all-terrain vehicles, in the Russian Mechanics RM 800 ATV the transmission is equipped with an electric differential lock. A distinctive feature of the PM-800 UTV model is the installation of safety bars above the seats, which is completely logical for a series with a powerful engine and a maximum speed of up to 100 km/h. According to reviews of the Russian Mechanics RM 800 ATVs, during a quiet ride, fuel consumption is 10-15 liters, and in difficult road conditions it can increase to 20 liters. per 100 km.
