BMW 650i

- beginning of production in 2010. It combines style and new technologies, thanks to the developments of the BMW company you get an excellent cocktail of excellent design and high technical performance.
Among the existing base colors of the 650i, you can easily find one that suits you, but most likely you can customize it. We most likely do not have all the configurations of this BMW 650i model, among which there are various options for assembling the 650i: the gearbox can be automatic or manual, leather trim or wood inserts, wheels and other additional elements of the 650i body, which will certainly be reflected in the price 650i. Technical characteristics are good, but don’t forget about the safety of the 650i or the engine size, which will then make itself felt in operating costs in the future, as well as 650i repairs and maintenance with a warranty period. Since the purchase is made not for several months, but for several years, so consider for yourself what you will do in the summer and winter, what trips you will make on the 650i
. The table below compares several configurations of the 650i; the parameters include: what are the overall dimensions of the 650i, what is the fuel consumption in the city, highway or mixed, engine size, maximum speed and acceleration time to 100 km/h, curb or gross weight of the 650i, wheelbase, front and rear wheel tracks, transmission type (gearbox/gearbox), what kind of drive, tire size, how much power or torque and what price. In addition to all the numbers, you can read reviews of car owners about the 650i, watch videos or news, tests (test drive, crash test).

The phrase “gran turismo” evokes associations associated with aristocracy and elitism, the taste of a luxurious standard of living and luxury. Just by looking at the BMW 650i sports coupe , it becomes clear that this car fully meets the characteristic features of the Gran Turismo brand - a combination of reliability and comfort, luxury and quality.

A powerful car with a 4.8 liter engine designed to move quickly on the highway and cover huge distances in a minimum amount of time. Taking off instantly, the car is able to reach a speed of 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and reach a top speed on the highway of up to 250 km/h. A modern security system allows you to feel calm confidence in your car even under unfavorable conditions on domestic roads.

The first car of the "gran turismo" class is considered to be the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 S/GT, a luxurious racing car that allowed the crews of Giuseppe Campari - Giulio Ramponi and Tazio Nuvolari - Giovanni Guidotti to win the Mille Miglia race in 1929 and 1930. Among the BMW models, it is worth noting the BMW 328, released in the 1940s, as well as the later BMW 503 and BMW 507. In the 1970s, CS models were created, among which a special place is occupied by the BMW 3000 CS, which has now been replaced by the new BMW 650i .

The sweeping appearance was complemented by dual headlights, pronounced wheel arches and a striking rear end. As a result, the E24 coupe became one of the most beautiful and successful cars in history. Over 14 years, just over 86 thousand copies were produced, half of which, as planned, were sold in the USA. The BMW 6 Series of that time is rightfully considered a cult car. Considering that some of them are already 30 years old, it is quite difficult to find a “living” copy even through clubs of devoted fans of the model, which exist in many countries. In Russia, the perfect “six” is even more rare than good roads. Therefore, having completely accidentally met the owner of just such a coupe, produced in 1979 (!), we immediately invited him to take part in our test, which thanks to this acquired an almost academic, “fundamental” character.

As the owner of an essentially antique “six” said (who, as a true connoisseur of “classics”, of course, does not find most modern cars original and interesting), this model was originally the 628th, but after repairing the engine and increasing the displacement became 633rd. The car arrived in Russia in 1993 and is still in excellent shape. It has completely preserved its original exterior, interior, and even its “original” Borbet wheels, and in one of the photos you can see how it drags a concrete block along the asphalt without much effort (just don’t ask why we needed this).

Sitting in an “anti-ergonomic” cabin on an old, imperfectly shaped chair and holding onto the thin rim of the steering wheel, it’s as if you’re transported back to the days when cars were not just a means of transportation, but something animate, your heart friend. On the move, the 30-year-old “six” produces that same, almost forgotten, and to many unknown, impression of a Real Honest Living Car, in which much depends on the skill of the driver, and not on any newfangled electronic systems. It seems that with your right foot you feel how the rear wheels begin to cling to the asphalt, and with your fingertips you feel how the front wheels turn. The inimitable sound of the magnificent BMW inline-six, not muffled by unnecessary sound insulation, penetrates into the very soul. At the same time, this car has the main qualities of a “gran turismo” - dynamics and comfort, which were simply magnificent for its time. And, of course, this BMW gives an intoxicating feeling of being part of automotive history, and one of its best manifestations.

650i give you that feeling ? Yes and no.

Yes, if only because the new “six” certainly became a significant milestone in the history of BMW. After all, before the start of production of the modern 6-Series, there was no large GT coupe in the Bavarian lineup for five years! In addition, it has nothing in common with the previous 8-series coupe, since the “eight” was built on the basis of the 7-series sedan. Yes, also because the 650i has become the quintessence of Bavarian engineering and the design impulse of another maestro - Chris Bangle. (It is unknown, by the way, what inspired Bangle at the moments of his research, but my colleagues and I noticed that without the trunk lid, the silhouette of the 650i suspiciously resembles another legend of the automotive world - the Porsche 911!)

But no, since it is not entirely correct to evaluate in a historical context a car that is still on the assembly line, having recently undergone a slight restyling. Let's talk about this too. As usual now, the model update is barely noticeable. The appearance of the “six” has not undergone any significant changes. There were new bumpers, different lighting equipment and a brake light integrated into a slightly modified trunk lid. There are a little more changes inside, but they don’t make a revolution either. The fact that the engine has now become almost 5-liter (4799 cm3) is already clear from the index. Active steering and stabilizers have been retained. Auxiliary electronics have been added: the car is equipped with a lane control system, active cruise control and an infrared night vision camera, the image from which is transmitted to the central display. This latter system is a pretty handy thing: it “sees” objects much further than xenon light, although “squinting” at the display, especially at high speed, is still not very convenient.

And the “six” now sports door closers. You just need to cover it slightly, and an automatic “suction cup” with a characteristic sound will pull it into the opening, and with the next movement the glass will rise up - doors without frames. A trifle, but nice. But the “salt”, of course, is not in these electronic “tricks”. And this becomes clear after the first press on the gas. Cool acceleration - juicy, dense, smooth, until the limiter is activated. The 5-liter engine always has enough thrust in any situation. “Automatic” helps as best it can. In sport and manual modes there is excellent response to pressing the accelerator and excellent engine braking. But even its smoothness in normal Drive mode cannot tame the 8-cylinder beast raging under the hood.

What a voice this beast has! It can rumble gutturally at idle, it can “gurgle” like a Harley-Davidson at medium speeds, it can bark angrily when shifting down, or it can howl with a metallic ringing, reaching a crescendo when the tachometer needle exceeds 6000! A magnificent duet of engine and tuned exhaust! All this sound was specially made so obvious, because, for example, the “seven” with the same engine does not have such vocal abilities. And rightly so: the owner of the 650i has nothing to be ashamed of - he is behind the wheel of one of the best Gran Turismos on the planet. The fact that the 6 Series is obviously designed for the autobahn does not prevent it from handling perfectly. Of course, it’s a bit cramped on winding narrow paths, and even more so in the city, but it’s capable of a lot.

Ideal weight distribution, precise balance, tuned suspension and the traditional BMW fully switchable stabilization system allow, if you have the right skills, to very deftly handle a car that is by no means small. Everything is so natural and correct that you find an understanding with a powerful coupe quite quickly and soon you get used to using a light and quick counter-movement of the steering wheel to catch a broken rear axle at the start, which, by the way, is also easy to correct, or to take turns on the verge of a breakdown. It is characteristic that the systems of active stabilizers and variable-ratio steering that I have already mentioned above operate almost imperceptibly, without disturbing the feel of the car.

Perhaps the feedback on the steering wheel at low speeds seems somewhat synthetic, but this is rather in the realm of minor quibbles, nothing more. And, of course, with all its sharp handling, the 650i feels most confident in the free left lane of the motorway: “gas to the floor,” and all the other cars seem to stop in place, as if a time machine has started working!

The 650i's sportiness doesn't come at the expense of comfort. Perhaps, of all the BMW coupe models, this indicator is second only to the 7 Series, which is natural. Passengers (and there can be four of them if they are no higher than average height) always feel protected and calm, regardless of the speed of travel: the suspension does not transmit unnecessary information to their “fifth points”. Almost no roll, no sway. BMW, like a glider, glides along the surface of the highway. Only the cerebellum and the heavier limbs of the passengers inform the brain that the longitudinal and transverse accelerations go beyond the usual limits. But it’s a special thrill when you’re pressed into the seat and you can barely reach the panel, isn’t it?

Bright car BMW 650i. Bright in every way, from the color shimmering in the sun to the most important thing - the amazing feeling of driving it. It's rare that a car can be so fast and comfortable at the same time. Many will say that for them this is the ideal, the standard to which they need to strive. Well, in many ways they will be right. But only a few of them are destined to experience another bright side of the 6 Series Coupe - owning it. It’s not for nothing that Gran means “big”!

Motorcycle BMW F 650 Funduro 1997 review

The BMW F650 is a touring motorcycle originally from the 90s, which, however, does not lose its relevance to this day. Reliable, economical, hardy and unpretentious, it is an honored veteran of roads and destinations. It was produced from 1993 to 2000. As a representative of the touring enduro class, the BMW F650 is the most budget representative of this class among the entire model range of the Bavarian manufacturer. The motorcycle is currently out of production, but given its phenomenal fault tolerance and survivability, numerous owners of the BMW F650 will be traveling on the roads of the world for a long time.

It may be a budget motorcycle, but it is still a BMW. And BMW is good. And they also know how to make touring motorcycles well in Germany. Reviews from BMW F650 owners confirm this - it’s not scary to even go on a trip around the world on this motorcycle. Structurally, this motorcycle is very simple, which is a plus for a touring enduro, and this distinguishes it from the models that replaced it, stuffed with all kinds of electronics.

The heart of the BMW F650 is a four-valve single-cylinder engine. And in general, the technical characteristics do not shine with originality - a 5-speed gearbox, one carburetor and a chain final drive. The engine produces 50 horsepower. It doesn’t seem like much, but in fact, the F650 can overtake at speeds of over a hundred kilometers per hour without much strain, although the comfortable cruising speed for this motorcycle is 120-130 km/h. If you drive faster, the vibrations of the single-cylinder engine begin to annoy.

It is worth noting that the BMW F650 has a fairly decent seat height of 82 centimeters, which makes this motorcycle not very comfortable for short riders. However, there are tuning possibilities to lower the landing - for example, replacing the seat.

However, the main advantage of the BMW F650 is, undoubtedly, the suspension. It works surprisingly well on this rather archaic motorcycle, and this despite the fact that some copies of this bike are already over twenty years old. However, the BMW F650 is capable of driving at decent speed even on really rough roads. Of course, this motorcycle is not intended for hard mixing of mud in the surrounding swamps, but it goes well on the ground, obediently swallowing holes and irregularities, and without causing any inconvenience to its rider.

From an ergonomic point of view, there is absolutely nothing to complain about. The seating position is straight, classic, and the BMW F650 is comfortable for a person of almost any height, although in any case, of course, it’s worth trying it on before purchasing. The laconic switches are located on the remote controls very conveniently, and the instrument panel is easy to read in any weather and at any time of the day.

Handling is also good; the BMW F650 has no problems even with fairly sharp maneuvers. Due to the short wheelbase and low weight (dry weight - about 190 kg), the motorcycle is noticeably blown away by a side wind, and noticeably shakes from cars flying towards it.

For one, this motorcycle is very comfortable. By attaching three cases to it, you can take with you everything you need for traveling even to the ends of the world. You can also sit together, but if both the driver and the passenger are not thin, it may be a bit cramped, and the 50-horsepower engine of the BMW F650 will immediately feel the additional load.

The braking system is excellent, that's all that can be said about it. One disc brake on each wheel stops the motorcycle very effectively, so there is no desire to modify the brakes of the BMW F650. The motorcycle brakes smoothly and predictably, allowing you to avoid unpleasant situations.

We can say that the BMW F650 is an excellent touring enduro at the right price. Reliable, with a large range (four hundred kilometers without refueling - easily), economical, with good suspension, for its price it has no equal. Of course, when buying a used motorcycle, there is always a certain risk of buying a “killed” bike, but making the right choice when purchasing is the buyer’s responsibility. And if you purchase a BMW F650 that was previously in the caring hands, it will serve you faithfully, with all its famous German reliability.

Blitz test drive of the new BMW 650 xDrive on ice

Journalists from leading Russian automotive publications gathered at a ski resort in the Leningrad region to offer not only the new “six” for a snow and ice test drive, but also all other BMW models with xDrive all-wheel drive. The fact is that the new generation of the large Bavarian coupe is now available in versions with four driven wheels.

Large Munich all-terrain vehicles

It fell to our group of journalists to conduct the test of the new six, and a dozen other all-wheel drive cars in the second place. And for starters - imitation of off-road obstacles. Indeed, in addition to BMW cars, the organizers provided half a dozen crossovers, including the BMW X3, X5 and X6.

With the help of the tallest and all-climbing Bavarians, the journalists invited to the test were able to evaluate the assistance systems for descending and starting uphill, as well as test crossovers with diagonal hanging, “swing” and side slope. Such tests do not occur every day on the way of “city dwellers,” but the capabilities of cars with a blue and white propeller are obvious. Oddly enough, these attractions did not arouse much enthusiasm among colleagues, and the majority, having driven one “lap” in a randomly selected car, did not change vehicles, but went to warm up in the tent. Either because it was too easy for the Bavarians to storm the impressive steel structures, or because the next part of the program promised to be more interesting...

Quick fan maneuvers

After mastering the off-road basics, we ended up on a frozen lake, which became an ice track, generous with sharp S-shaped turns of varying degrees of difficulty. The main stars of this part were the two new BMW 650 xDrive.

In the starting versions, the BMW 640 remained rear-wheel drive, but in the top version (650i), as well as with a diesel engine in the 640d business class coupe, it became available to order with all-wheel drive. Where else, if not on a track of snow and ice, can one understand why the powerful Bavarian coupe needed two more drive wheels?! Perhaps this is one of the most unusual tests of sports coupes in the last five or six years. During all the several hours spent behind the wheel of the BMW 650, the car’s wheels never touched the asphalt, and for about a third of the test time the car moved in a straight direction...

The new version of the BMW 6 Series coupe can be different: daring, comfortable, nimble and even imposing - everything is in the hands of the driver. Even on bare ice, switching the chassis modes from Comfort Plus to Sport or Sport Plus, you can feel how the shock absorbers tighten and the engine’s response to the position of the floor gas pedal accelerates. But on an ice track (I think that at most five percent of “sixes” will end up there sooner or later), the difference between a heavy business coupe and a two-door BMW 335 becomes clear. On bare ice, powdered with snow, the six willingly rolls sideways by inertia. The main thing is not to let go of the gas - the four driving wheels know perfectly well what to do with 400 horses; when turning, the rear tends to overtake the front faster than other all-wheel drive Bavarian models, which makes the car the most interesting and, perhaps, the most demanding in the “Munich” line.

BMW at the Moscow exhibition

Even before getting behind the wheel of the Bavarians, on the day of the test I was able to ask several questions to the President of BMW Group Russia, Peter Kronschnabel.

— Peter, what cars can we expect on the Russian market in 2012? — We recently launched the new BMW 3 Series in Moscow at Garage, and it is already available at all dealers. Later this year - I think it's not a big secret - we will launch the new BMW Gran Coupe. This is a 4-door version of the BMW 6 coupe. It will be a brilliant car - I'm sure it will be a success! In addition, a couple more new models will also appear this year, but I would not like to talk about them yet - let there be intrigue before the Moscow Motor Show! — Are there hybrid or electric models among them? Should we expect green prime ministers in the Russian Federation? - No, this year we are not going to present either one or the other. Moreover, electric vehicles are not on the BMW calendar for 2012.

— What about the fate of ActiveE, presented in Geneva a year ago? — Everything is very positive; you know the i3 model - it will be a fully electric car. But before launching the entire BMW i sub-brand into production, we would like to test the waters and find out how customers feel about using electric vehicles. So we want to see how the batteries behave, whether such machines are convenient for customers, and so on. This applies to all electric prototypes, including Mini and 1-series. — Do you think the Russian market is ready for electric vehicles? — To be honest, I don’t think so. As long as fuel prices in Russia are at a relatively low level, your market does not need electric cars. And in Europe, fuel prices are almost twice as high as in Russia. Not only is the infrastructure not ready, but at the legislative level in Russia the sale of electric vehicles is not stimulated in any way. In Europe, Western Europe, buyers of electric cars are provided with subsidies and incentives. In addition, there are various stimulating legislative initiatives; If I'm not mistaken, by 2014-2015 in California they are going to allow selling cars only to those companies whose 30% of presented cars have electric motors...

Dress Meeting - 650i Exterior

What does a “universal soldier” from German manufacturers look like? The modern “two-door” has adopted all the best technical features from the F01 “seven”, which allowed it to move quite far away from the previous generation coupe. In the proprietary M package, the 650i is equipped with an aerodynamic body kit, 19-inch wheels, LED fog lights, chrome trapezoidal exhaust pipes and a whole bunch of “salon” paraphernalia. True, such pleasure is not cheap: about 343 thousand rubles.

The design of the model favorably emphasizes its power and elegance: German manufacturers have always paid special attention to these points, and the BMW 650i cannot be confused with another brand outwardly, even if you remove the badges from it and blow smoke from burnt tires around it.
