Review of the enduro motorcycle Racer Enduro 300 RC300-GY8A

If you want to buy your first enduro motorcycle and have a certain amount of money, you want to get the most out of these funds.
But it’s good when you have 600-700 thousand. But what to do when you only have 100-150 thousand on hand? Today we will talk about a budget enduro, which in the spring of 2021 costs 138 thousand rubles. Is this a lot or a little for a Chinese motorcycle? Of course, for motorcycles, this is pennies. And in this price category, the motorcycle will be a compromise in any case. And the Racer Enduro 300 is a double compromise. After all, the engine is 300 cc, the equipment at this price is something new.

Advantages

Engine

Let's take it in order. Let's talk about the good stuff first. And there are quite a lot of good things about the Racer Enduro 300. And the most important thing is the engine. The engine here is called 170FMN, with a power of about 20 hp, a volume of 270 cm3, two valves and air-oil cooling with huge radiators. The radiators are really large, almost the size of liquid-cooled engines. I don’t even know if it was worth installing radiators so large? It will certainly be difficult to overheat it. But damaging these same radiators is not a complicated matter. By the way, the 170FMN engine is a direct competitor to the mega-popular 172FMM. But unlike the latter, the 170th has a balancing shaft, which makes it completely vibration-free, and this, you know, is a pretty big plus. In addition, I suspect that due to the larger volume, the 170FMN has a little more torque than the 172FMM. Otherwise, both of these engines are archaic and simple as a corner of a house, but at the same time reliable.

Carburetor

It is not surprising, but on such a truly budget device, an excellent Nibbi Racing carburetor with a diffuser of as much as 34 mm is installed!!! And this is actually great! Nibbi carburetors are famous for their stable operation at any speed and under any operating conditions. And the throughput of the 34th diffuser will certainly reveal the full potential of the engine.

Fuel tank

The tank on this vehicle is installed at 7.5 liters and is made of translucent plastic, through which you can easily control the fuel level. For modern Chinese-made motorcycles, such tanks are far from new. But again, given the cost of the Racer Enduro 300, this is a definite advantage.

Pros and cons of the Racer Panther 300

Advantages

  • Kickstarter available . When driving outside the asphalt, falls are common, as a result of which the battery may be damaged, and in this case, a kickstarter will be very helpful.
  • Good equipment . Right from the factory, the Racer Panther 300 is equipped with everything you need.
  • Durable plastic . Not too thick, but flexible enough, it will likely survive a drop on the ground.
  • Good engine cooling due to the presence of an oil cooler. Of course, it is possible to overheat the engine of the Racer Panther 300, but the chances of this are low.
  • Excellent pendants . Especially considering the low price of the bike.

Flaws

  • Great saddle height . This is, of course, a feature of the enduro class as a whole, but some 180cm tall riders claim that they cannot fully reach the ground with their feet while sitting on the Racer Panther 300.
  • No accelerator pump on the carburetor.
  • A primitive dashboard , on which there was not even room for a fuel level indicator.
  • A fairly high center of gravity , which is why the Racer Panther 300 subjectively seems quite heavy.
  • Weak engine braking.

Flaws

And of course, the Racer Enduro 300 RC300-GY8A, in addition to bright advantages, such as an awesome engine and carburetor, also has no less striking disadvantages.

Wheels

The wheel rims on this enduro motorcycle are steel. And, unsurprisingly, they are quite durable. At least better than other Chinese counterparts. But the fact that they are heavier than aluminum ones is a fact.

Hubs

The hubs used are quite cheap. The driven star is fixed to the hub with only 4 mounting points. But on the '21 models, powerful bolts are used, which generally hold the load well. Previously, the star was mounted on studs, through silent blocks. The studs were cut off during the first attempt to go off-road. So now this problem is solved.

Chain trap

Another obvious and incomprehensible jamb for me is the chain trap. Or rather, its complete absence. The chain itself, by the way, is 520, which is good. But the savings on matches from many Chinese manufacturers are absolutely incomprehensible to me.

Front fender

In general, the plastic on this motorcycle is not bad at all. This applies to the sidewalls and rear wing. They are made of ABS plastic in the style of KTM 12-16 years of production. This, by the way, is installed on many Chinese motorcycles. But the front wing is like a mare’s tail that wasn’t sewn on. Not only that, in my opinion, it has a stupid, shortened shape. It was also made from some kind of bucket. In short, we immediately order a front fender, well, at least in the same KTM style and made of normal, high-quality plastic.

Throttle grip

The throttle on this enduro motorcycle is very long-throwing. Of course, this cannot be called a straight-up bad joke. After all, this technique is designed primarily for beginners. But for beginners, such a length of throttle stroke, especially in the first couples, on the contrary, can be a plus. But I, as a more experienced rider, found this solution unusual and didn’t like it.

Total

On sale now you can find several dozen different Chinese enduros of similar cubic capacity, and it must be admitted that the Racer Panther 300 does not have any special advantages compared to them. However, he is certainly no worse than most of them, and he can compete with the rest on equal terms. True, it has to fight an unequal battle for buyers’ wallets, since for many motorcyclists this model still remains a pig in a poke, despite the generally positive reviews from the owners of the Racer Panther 300 and its good technical characteristics. However, if you are looking for an inexpensive enduro , this model is worth paying attention to, at least to compare it with others and choose the best option.

Why Chinese motorcycle?

I need a motorcycle for fairly long trips, mainly off-road, and also with a very limited budget of up to 200 thousand rubles, which is called “turnkey”, including all modifications and maintenance. Heavy tourenduros were not considered in principle, since they are essentially road bikes, and the enduro prefix, in my opinion, is purely a marketing ploy. An off-road motorcycle must first of all be such that, after falling, it can be lifted independently, and not with a crane.

The ideal option would be the legendary DRZ400. But this motorcycle, like good wine, only gets more expensive every year and the prices for it have completely bared their teeth, like a yard dog.

Suzuki DRZ 400

The cheaper option is the great trinity: Djebel, XR250 or TTR250. Just a couple of years ago, I would have taken one of them without hesitation. But now the situation is such that motorcycles are practically not imported into Russia from Japan, and if they are imported, the price is completely unreasonable. The same motorcycles that are sold here have often become obsolete a long time ago, and are more reminiscent of mammoth shit than motorcycle equipment. And spare parts that are quite hard to find and not the cheapest are also not a plus.

Suzuki Djebel 250 XC

So what remains, China? I have been selling Chinese motorcycles for quite some time, and I know their strengths and weaknesses very well. And if in the segment of top sports enduro, Chinese devices give battle to the Japanese, then in tourism or soft enduro, you won’t find really worthy options during the day. But still, I decided to take a chance and take one of them.

Modification of brakes on the Chinese enduro motorcycle Racer Ranger RC250-GY8A

The next thing that didn’t suit me was the efficiency and informativeness of the front brakes. You had to press the lever with all your fingers and then the motorcycle began to slowly slow down. For most, this won't be a problem. But I learned how it can be when the brakes are really good. The solution is quite simple - replacing the brake caliper with a copy of Brembo. I wasn't sure it would help. But lo and behold! Now you just need to press the brake with one finger!

Windshield for Racer Ranger RC250-GY8A

Well, a solution with weak wind protection, installing a windshield. The lobash from the Yamaha Nmax scooter, ordered from Aliexpress, fit perfectly. True, the Chinese did not pack the parcel at all and the glass arrived with a chipped edge, but Ali returned the full cost. So I got the windshield, although it was defective, but for free. Super glue and installation on the motor. Previously, at speeds above a hundred, the rinsing was noticeable. Now there’s no difference whether you’re driving 80 km/h or 130. Only a light breeze blows up the locks... oh, that’s not from here anymore))

Correction of Chinese-Russian jambs

A plan was developed to improve it. First, the bike was completely disassembled, oiled and reassembled. By the way, this procedure must be done with any motorcycle, no matter whether it is China, Japan or Austria. Interesting fact, the bushings were progressively rusty from the factory
