The “Predator” motorcycle helmet has deservedly become one of the brightest representatives of domestic motorcycle helmets . Produced by Russian motorcycle studios NLO Moto (Nlo-Moto) from Moscow and Nitrinos (Nitrinos) from Tolyatti, as well as some folk craftsmen.

The Predator motorcycle helmet was developed in 2010 and officially patented by state patent No. 136302 dated April 23, 2013. The production of motorcycle helmets is organized on the basis of the Nitrinos motorcycle studio itself.

The helmet is handmade and has many options, allowing each helmet released by the studio to be almost unique.

The design of the helmet is an original design of a composite shell with carbon fiber reinforcement. The layer of damping materials is standard and consists of a foam base and removable internal parts.

The helmet is equipped with various types of visors (protective glasses). Unfortunately, the visor cannot be opened on the go, since it is opened with both hands. To increase rider comfort, it is equipped with a two-channel adjustable under-helmet ventilation system. The weight of the basic version of the motorcycle helmet is 1820 grams.

The Predator offers a slightly different helmet design. The design also has patent No. 143626 dated May 15, 2014 and is made on the basis of a standard motorcycle helmet with a cast “Predator” protective mask, welded into a standard helmet and not violating its safety characteristics.

So, the IXS HX540 is used as the basis. Donor helmets are purchased in Europe. This is a standard integral, which is available in six versions, differing in size. The shell is available in only two sizes, as well as foam inserts. All other sizes are formed from soft foam inserts of various thicknesses. It is thanks to them that a tight fit of the head to the helmet body is ensured.

A completely new donor helmet can be disassembled almost completely. The hardest part of this process is removing the foam insert without damaging it.

The profile of the Predator is practically no different from the standard integral helmet. Perhaps only the chin bar has a slight resemblance to the cross protection element. The carbon shell is the optimal balance between weight and strength today.

Varieties of the Predator helmet

The basis for the “Predator” line of motorcycle helmets from the Nitrinos studio is its basic version, which is characterized by the following indicators:

Carbon version of the helmet . Additionally, the helmet can be covered with a layer of carbon fiber followed by the application of colorless varnish, which significantly changes the appearance of the helmet.

Volumetric fangs . Two versions of the plastic fangs are glued onto the bottom of the helmet, adding to the overall design of the helmet.

Predator Berserker . The basis of the helmet is the HJC motorcycle helmet. The helmet has a visor that can be opened with one hand, 17 dreadlocks made of foam rubber, and a double casing with an additional damping layer. The helmet weighs 2.2 kilograms.
Predator 3 ; The basis of the helmet is a Nolan motorcycle helmet. The helmet has a one-handed visor, 20 nylon dreadlocks, a double fiberglass shell and carbon reinforcement. The helmet weighs 2.1 kilograms.
Predator 4 . Restyling of the Predator 3 model. Parameters and characteristics are saved. Changes affected the external design of the helmet.

Thus, models differ from each other in the model of the base helmet, color scheme, number and length of dreadlocks (cords hung on the back of the helmet) and cost. The dreadlocks for the Predator helmet are glued in around the circumference at the back of the head, as they say, conscientiously. Even at high speed, the pilot does not have to worry about the safety of his “hair”.

However, with some effort, dreadlocks can be pulled out of their seats. This point was deliberately taken into account by the developers when creating the helmet. This is necessary in case of a fall from a motorcycle, when dreadlocks can get caught on the motorcycle.

With your own hands

Due to the popularity of the “Predator” motorcycle helmet, many articles have appeared on the Internet describing how to independently make such a helmet.
A standard helmet is taken as a basis, covered with papier-mâché paper, and on top of this, using plasticine, it is given the shape of the front part of a “Predator” helmet. Then the plasticine mold is covered with fiberglass and impregnated with epoxy glue.

After drying, the mold is removed from the donor helmet and modified to its final form. After painting the manufactured mask and the main helmet, the mask is put on the helmet and secured.

The main function of a helmet is to protect the motorcyclist’s head in a traffic accident. Protection from wind, rain and other negative influences while driving is also an important function of a motorcycle helmet. The manufacturing method is as follows: a motorcycle helmet certified to DOT and ECE safety standards is taken as a basis, and the outer shape of the Predator is layered on top of it using special equipment, made of lightweight and durable plastic. The result is a double-layer shell that maintains safety by completely preserving the helmet inside.

Interesting article! Only the prices are very different from those indicated on the website. And the most important thing is that Nlomoto does not make a helmet, but makes a mask, which is also indicated in the “PROTECTIVE MASK” patent. Nitrinos produces a full-fledged helmet made of composite, just like ARAY.
The names of the products are the same, but the principle is completely different and calling a mask a helmet is not correct!
