Honda VRX400 Roadster

Everyone who owned this motorcycle had an opinion about it. And if the decision to purchase it was not spontaneous and momentary, but was the result of a thoughtful choice based on market research, motorcycle characteristics, advice from “experienced” people, inner voice and common sense, then the VRX400 simply could not disappoint the new owner. If these articles are signed by NIKs, then these owners can be found on the forums, which will be indicated at the end of the articles.

Forum Honda VRX400, NIK “Classic” My first 50 km. on VRX

I came to the garage and connected everything. Filled with gasoline. Launch. The engine started, and then I heard the caressing gentle sound of the engine. My motorcycle driving experience can be equated to zero. But the NOBLE sound of VRX does not scare you away or confuse you, like direct-flow sports. On the contrary, it’s even somehow relaxing. He sat down and quietly drove off. I feel like it's a bit heavy at low speeds. I got used to it quickly. I slowly drove home, took gloves and a helmet, and moved to the city center. Fortunately, there are few cars, everything is in the country. Now I finally understand you guys. I had some doubts about the small number of horses. The motorcycle gave me all the answers. VRX truly carries the soul. It responds nobly to the throttle. Doesn't try to get out from under you. Forgives your inexperience. When upshifting early, it produces a bassy sound without choking or choking. On the contrary, he is trying to reach a speed that is comfortable for him. I was worried that a small number of horses would disgrace me in the general flow of cars, where even Vases would overtake me. But after the first 5 km, I realized that the VRX will not easily be offended, and is capable of showing character within the city. And I was aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiighh for everyone who overtakes me. VRX showed me with its character that “I’m not a sport, I’m just a heavy classic, with a big seat, a torquey engine and a soft suspension. I'm just a comfortable motorcycle for a walk and nothing more. So drive calmly and keep your eyes on the road. I won't be capricious and ask unnecessary questions. I’ll do everything myself.” Arriving at the garage, my adrenaline was not pumping. I didn’t want to grab my cigarette with trembling hands to calm my nerves. I felt simply rested and calm. And after I put the bike in the garage at around half past twelve in the morning, I went into the stall, took a small bottle of beer and sat down on the alley under the summer starry sky and... kaaayiff!

For those who are thinking about buying this motorcycle, I can say one thing. If you are a super-mega-active person. If you want to fly past the girls with a whistle and a wild roar. If you want to burn rubber in the headlights of cars at night. If you want to tear everything you can from the intersection. If you want the roar of your bike to make alarms scream and make your eardrums bleed. Don't buy this motorcycle. It is only for those who came home from work or school nervous. For those who want to be alone with their thoughts. For those who are in no hurry. This is a GREAT TOKING motorcycle. It suits me. And I don't regret the purchase! Honda VRX400 forum, nickname “tivlad” At the time of writing these lines, I have owned a Honda VRX400 motorcycle for 4 years. I dashed off something around 15,000 km. I started with short trips around the area. Further more. I started commuting to work in the capital - about 70 km there and 70 km back. At the same time, the first season listened, looked closely, sniffed. There were no problems. When planning long trips, I bought a navigator. I connected it to the Nolan 103 helmet - its speakers can be built into the helmet. Very comfortably. I began to master not only the route from home to work and back, but also in other directions. There is no longer any fear that the device will fail. I decided to increase the driving distance - the route lay in Belarus and just in the summer. Since I wanted to go not as a savage, but as part of a group, I bought a 4-day tour to Belarus through one of the companies providing motorcycle travel. And as a result of this trip, I concluded that it is necessary to travel either with “single-capacity drivers” or with those who enjoy driving at speeds of up to 120 km/h. I didn’t want to and couldn’t go faster in a headwind - I have a windshield installed and in a headwind it works like a sail, reducing the speed of movement against the wind and when meeting oncoming trucks - the oncoming air flow hits mercilessly! My traveling companions were a Yamaha FJR1300, a BMW 1100GS, and a Honda CB400. All devices are more powerful and resourceful than mine. I was always an outsider and playing catch-up. And I got caught on one of the turns - I had to put my motorcycle down so that it wouldn’t get carried away into a ditch. There are three more conclusions from this: arches are very necessary, protection is very necessary. You need to drive without trying to squeeze out of the VRX400 driving and acceleration modes that are not typical for it. Racing on Niva for Ferrari is pointless and unnecessary. Each of them has its own roads, its own modes and its own purpose. VRX is a very convenient, reliable, friendly device. I easily drove it 700 km a day. And this is probably the most beautiful motorcycle for those who love pure classics. He cannot leave indifferent either the border guard, or the gas station attendant, or the machine operator in the village, or the traffic police inspector.

And it captivated me with its character, convenience and... low maximum speed. Well, I don’t want to drive at speeds above 120 km/h. I want to see nature, cities, villages, people, not a narrow strip of road. And at high speeds, only it is visible. While waiting for the season, I saw him in a dream. And either I want to see him, or he wants to see me. This season he is wintering in his brother’s cold garage - it just so happened... I didn’t have time to get him to a warm garage before the icy conditions hit. So I dreamed about him one morning. “Told” me that I forgot to drain the antifreeze. I'll go drain it before the frost gets worse. Mystic? Or “soul to soul”? Here's the story :-)

VRX 400 Roadster

Hello, motorcycle fans! I’ve been interested in the topic of motorcycles for a long time, like most normal guys. Once upon a time there was a Java that sat in the garage, not running, more than it drove. So I sold it and took it away in a trailer. For a while it made me feel uncomfortable and for several years I didn’t want a motorcycle. But since last year I just fell ill with this disease again. I even went and looked and found out about getting my license. Since this is a costly action, I decided to wait for the winter and see if I’ll cool off on this idea or burn out. But throughout the entire winter I stayed away from sites selling motorcycles, forums, etc. Spring was approaching and I realized that I couldn’t avoid buying a motorcycle.

The goal is to buy a motorcycle that will suit me for quite a long time, with less plastic, that is not too expensive to purchase and maintain, with moderate appetite and power. I like naked bikes, cruisers, classics. Considering the past sad experience with Java, when I could not find a normal repair specialist, I wanted to first take the Yamaha YBR 125 from scratch.

The reviews are the most flattering, an abundance of spare parts and accessories, excellent reliability, etc. But, it’s rather weak. As a training motorcycle it is good, light, economical, and in everyday life it will work to the limit of its capabilities, since I am not exactly a light rider, 90 kg, and plus my beloved wife, although she is much lighter than me, the motorcycle would be lighter than both of us .

I started looking towards 250-ok. The choice was between Kawasaki Estrella and Suzuki Volty.

Another thing, classic motorcycles, no plastic, design to last, simple as an ax and more powerful than the Yubra. I chose Estrella because the tank is more beautiful and technically a little simpler. Once again the evenings fly by with forums, thematic groups...

And here it’s the same story, rather weak. Everyone unanimously says that the spendthrift is for the season. Throwing my hat on the ground, I decided to choose between 400-ok.

Fits smoothly on the Suzuki Intruder Classic and Yamaha Drag Star Classic cruisers.

Healthy full-size motorcycles with cardans, wide fenders, sofa-style seats, a gynecologist-like seating position and a chic look.

But classic motorcycles haunted me and I also hesitated between the Honda CB400SS and Yamaha SR400.

I broke my brain and took it out to my wife, but I couldn’t find a solution. I started to think that what to look at the pictures and those characteristics, you need to sit on them, touch them, get to know them. My wife and I decided to go to Dnepropetrovsk to a large motorcycle dealership and try to decide. Do you think it helped? No.

It was extremely difficult to make a choice between a cruiser and a classic. On the cruiser I didn’t look like a moped, but the weight of about 240 kg was embarrassing. The classics were lighter and more agile, but “short” and small.

The scales tipped in favor of the classic when I started thinking seriously about the Honda VRX 400 Roadster.

A big classic, not small, 205 kg curb weight, V-engine 400 cm from Steed and overall a very beautiful motorcycle. This motorcycle was not produced for long, from 1996 to 1999, there were only 4 modifications, which differed only in color, they were red, blue, black and completely black with a minimum of chrome.

All-round disc brakes, which is rare for a 400, fuel consumption is 4-4.5 liters, water cooling, a gorgeous exhaust both in appearance and in hearing.

I bought my VRX in Nikolaev from the first owner in Ukraine.

A motorcycle with a mileage of just over 13 thousand km. true or not, I don't know. Technically - ideal, visually, the paint is faded and the chrome is not in the best condition, apparently it had been standing for a long time, which is confirmed by the mileage. But it’s okay, there will be something to do.

What I would like to add finally is that as I grew older, I began to be more careful about spending money.
Previously, I changed cars almost every three months; in exchanges I would have bought a slightly better car, but a lot was spent on travel, re-registration and other expenses that negated all profits. That is why buying a motorcycle was a serious and responsible matter for me. I don’t want to change it every season, but rather put my soul into it. This season I plan to simply limit myself to maintenance matters, replacing consumables, and getting to know each other better, so to speak. Well, in the next one a complete transformation is not excluded. Thank you for mastering so many letters, so I tried to put everything as concisely as possible. Good luck and money to everyone!

Honda VRX400 Roadster

Brief review of Honda VRX 400 Roadster

Honda VRX400 Roadster is a motorcycle that is a kind of hybrid between a classic road motorcycle and a cruiser. The general style, appearance and fit make it similar to the former, and the driving characteristics are similar to the latter. The practically unparalleled model did not last long on the assembly line, as the public did not appreciate the unusual motorcycle, but even now many appreciate the VRX400 for its uniqueness.

Throughout the entire production, the motorcycle was not modified or modernized, only the color schemes changed (there were three colors in total - black, dark red and dark blue). From a design point of view, the Honda VRX400 Roadster is a very simple motorcycle, with a steel frame and an engine also used on the Honda Steed 400, Honda Bros 400 and Honda Transalp 400, albeit with its own settings.

Officially, the Honda VRX400 Roadster was sold only in Japan and was not supplied to other countries, but, nevertheless, this model is also found quite regularly on the secondary market of the CIS countries. Despite its rarity, there are practically no problems with finding spare parts for it, since many consumables and components of the VRX400 Roadster are interchangeable with other Honda motorcycles, including those listed above.
